Event #8 is already down by 5 players since the last break 20 minutes ago and the tournament is down to two tables. The player who has gained the most in this level is Brigitte Metivier, who was all-in for her tournament life just one level ago, and now sits at or close to the chip lead.

Her lead comes by virtue of a boat-over-boat hand against Alexandre Menard. Holding 4 of Diamonds 4 of Clubs, Brigitte flopped bottom set on a Jack of Spades 7 of Clubs 4 of Hearts. First to act, she checked her action and Alexandre checked back. The turn was the 2 of Clubs, which hit Alexandre’s pocket deuces… the river 7 of Spades converted both sets into full houses, but the result didn’t change: Brigitte stacked a whole bunch of chips to take with her to her new table.

There are just 22 players left in today’s tournament in the May Power Weekend, and that number could conceivably be much lower had a rash of short-stack double-ups not occurred across all three remaining tables in the second half of the last level – there were 6 doubles in a row compared with just one elimination.

There’s a new chip leader in the tournament, Eric Martin, but with so many small stacks, anyone could build up a stack to rival him quickly.

The players have returned from their second break of the day and play continues in level 9. While the players were absent from the tables, we surveyed them to find the biggest stacks that have been accumulated so far and found 3 players over 80K, including chip leader Alexandre Menard.

There are just 32 players left spread around 4 tables.

The first break in Event #8 has just completed and with the end of the break comes the end of the rebuy and late registration period. There are a total of 79 entries including 13 rebuys, contributing to a prize pool that well outstrips the $3,000 guarantee that had been placed on this event.

Four levels isn’t a lot of time to build up a big stack, but a few players have managed to more than double the 15K starting stack.
