Blinds are increasing and so is the action. We are currently at the end of level 5. There are 556 entries so far including 67 re-entries. Some big hands are being played and we got lucky enough to witness one that allowed Peter Shonk to double up.

We got to the table after the flop was revealed. Peter Shonk checked the flop and his opponent, Stephan Richer, immediately pushed his entire stack in. Shonk made the call and showed his Ace of Spades Ace of Diamonds. Richer wasn’t very happy to see those bullets since Shonk had him covered and had the best hand. His Queen of Hearts Queen of Clubs will end up costing him his tournament life.

Board: 2 of Spades 8 of Diamonds 4 of Diamonds 10 of Spades King of Clubs

Players just came back from their first break of the day. It’s the beginning of level 4 and there are 506 entries so far including 34 re-entries. Players still have plenty of time to register or re-enter the tournament.

We went around and gathered the chip counts and names of the current leaders after 3 levels of play. Here are a few of them – but Shawn S is the one taking the lead so far with 3,9M in chips.

    Some photos from Day 1B

Here are a few photos of the action in Day 1B. These photos were taken during levels 2 and 3 in the event.

    The field is growing

    • Level: 3
    • Small Blind: 6K
    • Big Blind: 12K
    • Button Ante: 12K
    • Chip Average: 1.1M
    • Remaining: 421
    • Entries: 460

    2018/04/22 - 13:37 by Playground Poker

We are now half way through level 2 and the field is expanding at a very fast pace. There are already 404 entries, including 11 re-entries. The Tournament Hall is filling up, and so is the tent in the back, but there is still room for more players to join. They have until the break following the 9th level to register (or re-enter if needed).

We were able to walk around and see some familiar faces such as Jean-Philippe Piquette, Sebastien Drolet-Poitras, Jason Mandanici-Turcot, Said Michailidis, Kathy Sawers, Ben Menache, Luciano Iacovella and many more.

There are a few big-name players also in the action, with more certainly coming: Kevin MacPhee, Carter Swidler, Amir Babakhani, Josue Sauvageau, Noeung Troeung, and David Ormsby.

Looks like it’s going to be day full of action!

It’s a wonderful day out and it shows just by how many players are in the place. With already 315 entries, and the number keeps going up, it will for sure be a huge field today.  Let’s see if we can reach the 586 entries we got yesterday for Day 1A…

It’s the second and last Day 1 for the MILLIONS Open – that means it’s your last chance to hop in that very first event of the MILLIONS series – the Open. The tournament director is welcoming all the players and is announcing the beginning of this exciting event. The words have been said ”dealers, shuffle up and deal”.

Good luck to all of the players!

Next in the MILLIONS Open: Day 1B

    2018/04/22 - 10:43 by

Today at 12:00pm will mark the beginning of the 2nd of two Day 1 starting flights in Event #1, the MILLIONS Open. Day 1A was a huge success with over 580 entries having taken a seat in the tournament, and there’s no reason to believe that today’s flight should be any smaller – in fact, if history is any guide, today’s flight will be at least that size – if not larger!

Play yesterday continued through 12 40-minute levels, with late registration and re-entries permitted though the first 9 levels, and the plan for today is identical. If there are any changes, it will be in the registration patterns of players, who may rely less on late registration than on Day 1A. A total of 130 players were seated as alternates yesterday, and although we constantly strive to seat everyone as quickly as possible, a short delay was unavoidable in the middle part of yesterday’s flight.

There should be some big-name players joining the field today as players who were eliminated from the High Roller yesterday will certainly take a shot at what is certain to be a very meaty prize pool for a $1,100 event! So don’t be surprised if you look around your table and see a (poker-world) household name seated across from you today!

Players who played but did not qualify – or even players who did make Day 2 – are welcome to take another shot today. This is a best-stack forward, meaning that a player may qualify for Day 2 more than once – but will only take their big stack forward to Day 2.

Good luck to everyone on the felts today!
