Taylor Black wins the MILLIONS North America Main Event!

    2018/05/02 - 21:56 by

After that astonishing check-raise bluff, Taylor had about an 80-20 chip advantage, but Darryll was again showing his class as a player and working hard to narrow the gap. He had taken back a few points when the final hand in the event occurred.

Darryll was on the button and raised to 45M holding Queen of Spades 9 of Spades. Taylor put together a 3bet to 140M holding Ace of Diamonds Ace of Spades. Darryll made the call.

Flop: 4 of Hearts 6 of Hearts 9 of Diamonds.

Taylor was first to act, and bet 130M – and found a raise all-in from Darryll Fish. Taylor made the call as quickly as humanly possible… and the bad news was revealed to Darryll. All Taylor would have to do is fade three Queens or two Nines to take the championship!

Turn: 6 of Spades – a terrible card for Darryll! Now making two pair was no longer good enough – he’s have to hit a Nine for a full house!

River: Queen of Hearts – two pair for Darryll, but counterfeit by the turn – no good!

And just like that, Taylor Black was the winner!

Both Darryll Fish and Taylor Black are demonstrating their bona fides to take this prestigious title, but Taylor just made an in-hand course correction play that will likely change the whole tournament.

Darryll held Ace of Diamonds 10 of Spades while Taylor was playing the King of Diamonds 6 of Diamonds. Preflop Taylor had made a big 3bet and Fish called, and by the river the pot was 620M – and both players had approximately a pot-sized bet behind. On a board reading Jack of Spades Queen of Diamonds Queen of Clubs 9 of Spades 9 of Diamonds, Taylor surveyed the scene and quickly checked, seemingly giving up on the hand. Darryll had other ideas, though – he be 260M… only to find an amazing check-shove from Taylor! Fish had the 100% beside his name… but had to let it go – and nevertheless was forced to fold and watch Taylor stack a monster pot – one that he had already effectively ceded to Darryl.

Taylor Black is once again the big chip leader in the tournament and with blinds growing quickly has to be the prohibitive favourite.

Darryll Fish has won a big pot to bring the players’ stack size closer to even in this HU match.

Taylor was on the button and raised to 30M holding Jack of Spades 10 of Spades. Darryll made the call and the flop was dealt: 7 of Clubs King of Spades 9 of Diamonds. Taylor had flopped a ton of equity though he didn’t have a made hand, and he bet 25M while Darryll check-called. The turn was the Ace of Hearts and Taylor placed a 40M bet. Darryll made the call.

The river was the Ace of Spades and Darryll checked again. Taylor fired his third bullet – a 140M bet into a 190M pot.

Darryll thought about it for several minutes before throwing a single chip – he had made the call! After stacking the chips, Darryll was playing around 830M (59bb) while Taylor was on 1,010M (77bb) and the tournament was now in yet another new phase.

Every poker tournament has its share of amazing hands – great board run-outs, amazing folds, hero calls… but the MILLIONS North America Main Event seems to have had more than its share.

A hand just played out between Darryll and Taylor for what ended up being a 513M pot. We’ll skip the whole hand history – what’s really important is just the end result.

Darryll: Ace of Diamonds 3 of Diamonds
Taylor: Jack of Clubs Jack of Hearts

Board: 10 of Hearts 9 of Diamonds 8 of Diamonds 10 of Clubs Queen of Diamonds

Darryll had gone all-in on the river holding the nut flush (and it wasn’t super well hidden in any way), but Taylor found a relatively easy fold holding the straight to the Queen… and so kept his dominating chip lead.

By the end of the level and the next scheduled break, the chip stacks had moved to a 43bb to 119bbs ratio between Darryll and Taylor. Also, when the players return play will begin in level 42 and level lengths will be halved (30 minutes).

Play is still in level 41 and heads-up play has begun on the streaming table on the stage here at Playground Poker Club. The players who have made it this far are Darryll Fish (40bb) and Taylor Black (145bb). The relative stack sizes to begin this ultimate phase in the tournament are unbalanced, but heads-up play is notorious for its swings, so really anything could happen between these two experienced, skilled players.

Three-handed play was still in its infancy when Anthony Ruberto found an unfortunate spot to assert himself. He was on the button when and he opened the action with a raise to 25M holding Ace of Clubs 7 of Hearts. Darryll folded, and action was on Taylor Black who held Jack of Diamonds Jack of Spades – he wasn’t going anywhere!

Taylor chose to make a meaty 3bet to 85M. Anthony – who was enjoying a massage therapy session at the time – re-looked at his cards and threw in the chips to make the call. The pot was now 180M and the dealer put out the flop: 4 of Diamonds 5 of Clubs Jack of Hearts.

It was pretty much as positive a flop you’d ever expect to see holding Jack of Diamonds Jack of Spades – and as first to act, Taylor checked. Anthony considered the situation and made a tiny speculative bet of 25M chips. Taylor’s response was definitive: raise to 135M. The commentators speculated that Anthony had made the small bet to try and induce some indiscriminate chips being put into the pot – and seemingly believing he had done so, Anthony made the call.

The 8 of Clubs came on the turn – a bit of a save card for Anthony, who now at least didn’t need running cards to make the best hand – and before too long he went all-in for his remaining 439M chips… and found a snap call from Taylor, whose holdings were quite a bit better than Anthony had thought they would be! No 6 came on the river (it was the 10 of Spades). He wasn’t too upset about anything – he had just booked a $1M prize after all!
