    June Power Weekend News

Robert Courrière gets the Strangers in the Night title

    2018/07/02 - 0:30 by Jôle Simard

The Strangers in the Night event was a resounding success. 479 entries were accounted for, aggregated over 3 Day 1s where unlimited re-entries were permitted. The Strangers in the night charity event, as always, was a fun competition where players supported a great cause while indulging in their favorite game.

96 players came back for Day 2 yesterday. A full day of poker brought the field down to 10 finalists, who returned tonight for the conclusion of the June Power Weekend’s marquee event.

Daniel Gagnon, the winner of the 2014 Playground Poker Montreal Festival’s Main Event, was on the final table. Miguel Goncalo, a Playground regular who is no stranger to deep-event play, was also in the mix. John Palmer came with a charity title under his belt, having won an All Stars for Starlight event in 2016. Palmer brought a lot of fun to the table with his easy-going demeanor, and he casually made it to the heads-up match, but had the short end of a very uneven duel.

Robert Courrière started the day with just under a million chips. Before long, he was closing in on the leaders, but not content of joining them, he just whizzed passed them like a rocket and never looked back. He orchestrated a great number of busts and his all-around solid play, aided by a handful of good hands, got him the title tonight.

On Behalf of Playground Poker Club and the Strangers in the Night group, congratulations!

The last Stranger standing: Robert Courrière – $13,000

Courrière is joined by his friend, who supported him all night:

    Runner-up: John Palmer – $9,660

    Overlay alert!

    2018/06/30 - 19:56 by Jôle Simard

For a tournament player, a soft field is like candy, but an overlay is like a candy store! A Mega Satellite is currently running in Playground Poker Club’s tournament hall, and after 4 levels of play, out of the 220 entries needed, only 82 have taken place!

What is the guarantee? 20 X $1,100 WSOP-C Playground Main Event seats! Registration closes at 8:30pm.

If you would like to play the WSOP-C Playground, this is your best chance to get in. And don’t forget, you can always sell your seat if you can’t play or you already have one!

    Event #3 Champion: Jimmy Lehouiller

    2018/06/28 - 2:49 by Shawn McCrory

Event #3 of the June Power Weekend, the $200 + $30 + $100 PL Omaha Bounty Re-entry, drew a total of 40 entries, generating a prize pool well beyond the $10,000 guarantee.

The action was fast paced during the first few levels of play, leading seven players to fire a second bullet at this event. The word “pot” was heard early and often, and multi-way all-ins were a regular occurrence. Once the re-entry period finished and prize money appeared on the horizon, the players tightened up, favouring pot control over bounty hunting.

Jean-Francois Daunais led the way for most of the evening before running out of steam once he reached the final table and busted in seventh place. From there, Stacy Levac took over the chip lead, but he was unable to run away things. The final four players-Stacy Levac, Jean-Serge Baril, Huy Monorith and Jimmy Lehouiller-were locked in a see-saw battle where the chip lead changed hands several times and the short stacks kept coming back from the brink of elimination. Following Baril’s elimination in fourth place, the three remaining players quickly agreed to an even chop of the remaining prize pool.

Monorith, Baril and Lehouiller each received $1,940 for the chop, leaving $240 for the winner. The winner was quickly determined when the three players were all-in before the flop on the next hand, and Lehouiller, who had a slight chip lead over his opponents, took it down to claim victory. Congratulations!

Event #3 Champion: Jimmy Lehouiller, $2,180

    2018/06/28 - 1:13 by Shawn McCrory

Jimmy Lehouiller has just eliminated Daniel Mclaren in fifth place.

Both players were relatively low on chips, and they all went in before the flop when Mclaren three-bet-shoved frm the button over Lehouiller’s opening raise from the cut-off.

Mclaren: Queen of Diamonds Queen of Clubs 2 of Clubs 8 of Clubs

Lehouiller: 5 of Clubs 6 of Clubs 7 of Hearts 8 of Hearts

Board: 4 of Hearts 6 of Hearts 9 of Clubs 8 of Diamonds 7 of Spades

Mclaren will collect $680 for the deep run.

Welcome to the June Power Weekend!

    2018/06/27 - 11:55 by

Today is the first of 10 great events in the June Playground Power Weekend – a $100 + $10 8-Max Freezeout that is set to get underway in just minutes. It’s a beautiful Wednesday afternoon here in Kahnawake as we settle in to full-blown summer – a good time to get out of the midday heat and into a lovely air-conditioned poker room!

Today’s event is a 1-day event that features 20 minute blinds and allows for late registration until the beginning of level 5 – in other words, until the end of the break following level 4 of play today.

    Good luck to everyone playing!

Coming in June – an all new Playground Power Weekend!

    2018/06/22 - 18:45 by

The next Playground Power Weekend is coming quickly. Events will run from June 27th to July 2nd, and the weekend will include 10 tournaments with accessible buy-in levels, popular formats, and over $175,000 in Guarantees.

The cornerstone event of the June Power Weekend is the return of the Strangers in the Night Poker Fundraiser. The buy-in for the tournament is $150 + $25, but the $25 isn’t a normal tournament fee – this amount will be collected as a donation to the Strangers in the Night Charity Initiative. With a $50,000 Prize Pool guarantee, this is must-play event!

The other show-stopper event in the June Power Weekend is the $330 Tag Team Event – yes, it’s back! The Tag Team event is one of our players’ all-time favourite formats. Each two-person team will play through 6 levels as individuals, and then the teams will be brought together and the players on a team will alternate from level to level. “Consultation chips” are sure to fly! To register for the Tag Team, one team member must buy-in for both players at the cage – unfortunately, we can no longer accept in-person or Facebook reservations as we have done in the past.

Alongside the 10 events in the June Power Weekend will be two satellite tournaments for the recently-announced WSOP-C Playground Main Event. The Main Event is an $1,100 NL Hold’em Re-entry event with a $2,000,000 Guarantee, and during the Power Weekend there will be two $110 + $10 Satellites. The first will have 3 Seats guaranteed, and the Mega Satellite on June 30th will have a massive 20 Seats guaranteed!

Whatever your preference, the June Power Weekend has something for you! See you soon here at the Club.
