    Makan Salimi bags large

    2018/05/18 - 3:16 by Jôle Simard

Day 1A of the Playground 200 is in the books. From 129 entries, just 27 players managed to survive today’s 14 levels. The last level was quite tight, as players took little risk to avoid being knocked out right before the fake finish line.

All of these players will be added to the Combined Day 1 Results, found here. This list will be updated as Day 1s conclude, and will eventually provide a full list of Day 2 qualifiers. Three online players have been waiting there for some company since last Sunday. With the conclusion of Day 1A, that list rounds 30 players.

Tonight, Makan Salami finished strong, getting a few chips from Craig William who was on pace for a top 3 stack. Salami bagged 239,000 chips and is followed by Ben Menache, who finished with 182,500.

After these two come a pack of players in the 160s. George Siamoutas, David Sorgente, Nicolas Miron, Lee Chanwoo and Gil Charles are all within 7,000 of each other.

To join them and take shot at the $100,000 guarantee, play in Day 1B (Friday 7:00pm) or Day 1C (Saturday 11:00am). All qualifiers merge on Sunday at 12:00pm. See you tomorrow!

    Trevisonno finds a double-up

    • Level: 13
    • Small Blind: 1K
    • Big Blind: 2K
    • Button Ante: 2K
    • Chip Average: 104K

Vincent Trevisonno open raised to 9K, which was a 4.5X raise. He did not want to let anyone in cheaply, and got his wish. Action was folded to Charles-Anthony Dubé in the big blind, who raised all-in. Vincent was covered by a bit, and both players created a pot of 85K.

Trevisonno: Jack of Clubs Jack of Spades
Dubé: 8 of Clubs 8 of Hearts

Board: 10 of Diamonds Ace of Spades Queen of Diamonds 4 of Clubs 3 of Diamonds

Cole Skye and Roy Vishinsky got it in pre-flop. Vishinsky thought it was a great spot to double up, but he found that he was on the wrong end of a set-up:

Vishinsky: King of Diamonds King of Spades
Skye: Ace of Spades Ace of Clubs

Board: 6 of Spades Queen of Hearts Queen of Spades 10 of Diamonds 2 of Clubs

Skye had only 4,000 left at one point, but made a great comeback. He is now sitting behind over 100K.

With only 3 levels ahead of us, nine players are working with a 6-figure stack. It is extremely tight at the top:

Nicholas Bélanger made a small raise, and Alain Zarka pushed his chips forward. His opponents were looking at a 25K bet, and one by one they folded, until the action came around to Bélanger. He already had a pile of chips in his hands, ready to go.

Bélanger: Ace of Hearts Ace of Clubs
Zarka: 10 of Clubs 10 of Diamonds

Board: 5 of Diamonds 9 of Clubs Ace of Diamonds 10 of Spades 2 of Hearts

Luckily for Bélanger, he had secured a set on the flop. A few hands later, on the same table, Johnny Akilian and Bob T had their own pre-flop showdown:

Johnny: 5 of Diamonds 5 of Hearts
Bob T: King of Clubs Jack of Spades

Board: 8 of Diamonds 9 of Spades 4 of Clubs 5 of Clubs 10 of Clubs

As the average stack decreases in number of big blinds, the gloves come off. The last break comes in about 15 minutes, after which Day 1A players will have 3 levels to work with before the end of the flight.

    Tough flop

    • Level: 10
    • Small Blind: 500

    • Chip Average: 53.8K
    • Remaining: 60

With just a couple of chips in the pot and a small bet from Golnaz Aghabeigi, Étienne Nault shoved his remaining 25K on the flop. He must have felt a lot of strength in his opponent; most people would slow play the monster that he found on the flop.

Nault: Ace of Hearts 10 of Hearts
Aghabeigi: 9 of Hearts 9 of Clubs

Board: 10 of Spades 9 of Diamonds Ace of Diamonds Queen of Hearts 3 of Diamonds

If that was his read, he was a little too correct. Aghabeigi had the next best hand, and Nault was looking for one of 4 outs to survive, which did not come.

    Golnaz Aghabeigi
