Yu Xin Liu got a few surprises when he eliminated Larry Robinson from Day 1C of the Colossus. First, Liu, who hails from Calgary, Alberta, didn’t realize who he was up against and didn’t realize there was a bounty on his head! Robinson and Liu had played a few hands against each other and were having a good time chatting about the game. The rest of the players at the table, mostly Montreal natives, sat quietly awe struck and were quick to point out Robinson’s legendary status after he left the table.
Liu, who had been active and aggressive since sitting down at the table, opened the action from the cut-off on the hand in question. Robinson defended from the small blind, encouraging the big blind to come along. Robinson led out with a bet on the flop, forcing the big blind out of the hand, and Liu made the call. The turn brought the , and Robinson led out with another bet. Again, Liu made the call, and the two players watched the hit the river. Robinson slowed down and checked to Liu. Liu quickly moved all in. After some thought, Robinson didn’t believe Liu’s story and made the call. Liu tabled aces-up, and it was good. Robinson shook hands with a few players at the table and gracefully made his exit.
Liu was seen with a look of disbelief as he was scrolling through Robinson’s wikipedia entry, learning about all the championships and awards in Robinson’s storied career, when he was informed that he would also collect a $500 partypoker LIVE bounty. It all makes for quite a start to Liu’s Colossus run!
