Colossus Day 1E – in the bag!

    2018/08/25 | 23:02 by Playground Poker

It’s a wrap for Day 1E of the Colossus event. This flight was the most popular so far with 396 entries (including 69 re-entries). At the end of 14 levels of intense play, 52 players were able to bag chips for Day 2.

Our quick tour of the tables, while players were bagging the chips, indicated that Vincent Danis is in the lead with over 450,000 chips in the bag. He’s followed by 3 players with stacks slightly over 300,000: Jared Mcdonald, Zhiming Bao and Charles Gauthier.

The results of Day 1E have been added to the Colossus – Combined Day 1 Results table.

Here are some final photos of the players taken as the tournament was ending.

Day 1E is on it’s last 3 hands, as announced by the tournament director a few minutes ago. We witnessed a hand on table 24 that ran emotions through the roof for Shahar Ohaion and Zhiming Bao. Both players were all-in preflop with pocket pairs.

Shahar Ohaion: Jack of Clubs Jack of Diamonds

Zhiming Bao: Queen of Hearts Queen of Diamonds

The last player to fold said he’d just folded tens when the flop came out: 7 of Clubs 4 of Diamonds 10 of Spades .

As the players waited, the turn Jack of Spades came and made Shahar Ohaion smile and he sat back down.

Lady luck proved once again that she’s the boss, when a Queen of Clubs came out on the river.

Heads were nodding and ironic smiles were seen all around the table with global understanding between the players; that’s poker.

Shahar Ohaion heads for the rail as the remaining 52 players out of 396 entries receive the welcome bags, to store their chips for Day 2.

Players in Day 1E of the Colossus have just returned from their final break of the day and play will now continue uninterrupted for two levels, and everyone left at the end will qualify for Day 2 and bag their chips to bring back into action on Day 2. There are still 68 players left and that should drop a little bit before the end of the flight, but there are a lot of healthy stacks and not too many really short stacks left in play, so that could put the brakes on a little bit.

The current chip leader is a newcomer to the leaderboard, Mark Allott, but he’s followed by guys like Matthew Wilkins (who has been installed among the leaders for most of the day), Eric Leblond, and Carl Martel – players with plenty of experience and patience.

Play in Day 1E continues in level 12. The final break of the day is coming in about 10 minutes, and we’ll get a good look at the chip leaders going into the final stint at that time. Currently, there are 78 players remaining but the pace of play has slowed substantially as players begin to look forward to perhaps reaching the end of things for the night.

Here are a few photos taken during level 12.

Players in Day 1E in the Colossus have begun play in level 10, and after this level there will be just 4 more levels to go before the remaining players bag up chips to return to Day 2. For some, this means that crunch time has arrived – while for others, this is simply another stop on the road…

Matthew Wilkins has reclaimed a spot on the leaderboard while Tyler Lee and Jared McDonald have retained their spot – and are no doubt hoping to use the leverage that a big stack represents to propel them through to the end of the day.

Registration is now closed in Day 1E of the Colossus, and with 396 entries (including 69 re-entries), this proved to be the most popular flight so far by a wide margin.

The leaderboard in Day 1E has completely changed since the first break of the day – none of the top 10 in the flight at that point are still among the leaders. The leader now with over 125K in chips is Shawn Daigle. There’s a long way yet to go, however – as the first group of leaders would certainly agree!
