Registration continues to creep upwards to the point that Day 1E is on the verge of hitting the 400 entry mark with another hour of late registration and re-entry available. Since the break, we have seen several notable players join the tournament, including Alexandre Lavigne and Jeff Cormier, to name just two players who have had remarkable success here in the past.

Here are a few more photos of the field in action today, all taken during level 5.

The players in Day 1E have just returned to the tables after their first break of the day, and we took the opportunity while they were away from the tables to get a look at who has built up their stack at this early point in the flight.

The chip leader so far is Matthew Wilkins with 73,300 and there are an impressive number of players already over 60K – each of these players has put themselves into a good position although it’s too early to say that anyone is a lock yet – there’s still a ton of tournament to be played today!

Here are a few photos of the early action in Day 1E, taken during level 1 and 2. As level 2 comes to a close, registration today continues to grow – there are already 307 entries including 19 re-entries, and players still have 3 hours and 10 minutes to enter (or re-enter) today’s flight.

Aces over Aces… is bad news for Pang

It’s a rare enough thing to see that the showdown itself provokes a reaction when two players are all-in both holding a pair of Aces – but it was a much louder reaction when one of the players wins the hand… and that’s what brought us to table 20 just in time to see the showdown between Cameron Battikha’s Ace of Hearts Ace of Clubs and Haipeng Pang’s Ace of Spades Ace of Diamonds.

Anderson Frank-Graham – the player who had been sitting right between the two in seat 6 – explained that “they were playing trappy trappy to the turn,” he said, “but then the chips got in.”

The full board was Queen of Clubs 8 of Diamonds 5 of Clubs 4 of Clubs 2 of Clubs and the nightmare scenario was complete for Pang, who was visibly upset by the turn of events.

Day 1E in the Colossus is shaping up to be the biggest starting flight so far – and likely by a wide margin – as play has just now begun and there are already 200 players at the tables, with more coming in at a rapid pace.

As players were taking their seats, we noticed three of Quebec’s top players making their way to their seats – WSOP Main Event winner and three-time bracelet winner Jonathan Duhamel has taken a seat at table 37, while two-time bracelet winner Andre Boyer has been seated at table 20. There are sure to be many other players of note in the field today – we’ll pass along the info as we get it.

Play today will continue through 14 levels of 40 minutes each, and late registration is open until the beginning of level 7 – in other words, until 4:30pm.

    Good luck to everyone today!

Saturday means Day 1E and Day 1F

    2018/08/25 | 10:22 by

There are five starting flights left in Event #1 of the WSOP-C Playground – the Colossus. Two of the five will be played today – Day 1E begins at 12:00pm and Day 1F begins at 4:30pm. Since this is a single re-entry tournament, this means that players will have 4 opportunities today to book a spot in Day 2 of the tournament alongside the 151 players that have already secured their spot.

So far there are 1,266 entries in the event, including both live and online flights, but with the number of starting days beginning to dwindle, that number should grow significantly today, and even more on Sunday when there are three Day 1s on the schedule.

Late registration in Day 1E continues until the beginning of level 7 – in other words, you can register until 4:30pm – and then play begins in Day 1F, which will allow late registration all the way until 9:00pm – meaning that players have, effectively, 9 hours straight in which to jump into the tournament today!
