Day 2 of the Colossus is in the books

    2018/08/27 | 22:03 by

After 12 levels of intense poker action, Day 2 in the Colossus has come to a close. Play today was extremely fast-paced from beginning to end. The bubble (350 players remaining) was reached in just the 3rd level of the day, and the pace continued all the way to the end of the night – in the very last level of the day, there were 11 eliminations accounting for approximately 20% of the remaining field at the time. At the end of the day, there were just 37 players remaining in the tournament to return to play on Day 3, which is set to begin at 12:00pm tomorrow.

Again on Day 3, there is a chip leader who leads by a wide margin. Trevor Delaney – who has a history of doing extremely well in tournaments at Playground Poker – bagged up 7,705,000 chips, which will be 97bb to start the day tomorrow. Next on the list is Jackob Datashvili, over 3 million chips back at 4,235,000. The Day 2 chip leader, Jonathan Bussières, was active throughout the day and will begin Day 3 with a more than respectable 3,875,000 in chips.

Day 3 will also begin with a raft of short stacks – there are 12 players that will begin with 15bb or fewer in their stack – so action will most likely get off to a quick start again tomorrow.

Tournament staff have performed a full table redraw for Day 3, and following table lists the official seating chart to begin the final day of the Colossus. Click or tap on a column heading to sort the table (for example, if you want to view the results by chip count, not seating order).

    James gets paid

    2018/08/27 | 20:59 by Jôle Simard

Douglas James, with only one level to go before the end of Day 2, found himself in a great doubling spot. His aces were facing Maxime Francoeur’s kings, and in the absence of another on the board, James reached the 2-million mark.

Meanwhile, Jackob Datashvili and Trevor Delaney got to just over 4 million each, leading the last 5 tables into the level 26.

The Colossus has entered level 26, which is the last level that will be played today. There are just 48 players remaining in the tournament, and once the level wraps up, the remaining players will bag up chips for Day 3, which will start at 12:00pm tomorrow afternoon (Tuesday August 28th).

We currently are at level 24 in the Colossus Day 2 tournament. There are 67 players remaining and they are all highly motivated to add chips to their stacks.

There was a 15-minute break a few moments ago, and that allowed us to see how the players are doing. The tide seems to have changed for our chip leaders. Peter Asskandar is now our reigning top gun with the only stack above 3 million chips.

With just under one hour to play there will be some intense strategy. All the players are keeping the eyes on the board. Anyone left standing after level 26 will move on to Day 3. This last leg of the 3-day Colossus Event will be tomorrow at 12:00pm.

The players in the Colossus have just returned from a break and we were able to survey all of the remaining tables to find the current chip leaders in the tournament. Jonathan Bussières continues to lead the way, but Scott Montgomery has been stacking chips as well today – he’s now playing over 1.6M. Otherwise, the top of the leaderboard is quite consistent with earlier today.

The rate at which players are sent to the rail has slowed down considerably, but there are still a good number of short stacks trying to build.

Louis Richard was all-in on the flop after investing much of what he had before the flop. Joshua Frazer was happy to take part with a solid pair, but Richard had ordered something on the turn:

Richard: Ace of Clubs 10 of Clubs
Frazer: King of Hearts King of Spades

Board: 6 of Clubs 6 of Diamonds 9 of Hearts Ace of Diamonds 8 of Clubs

Tyler Dietz did not enjoy the same luck. He was all-in against Jonathan Marrie with his tournament life on the line:

Dietz: 10 of Hearts 10 of Diamonds
Marrie: King of Diamonds King of Clubs

Board: 9 of Spades 7 of Clubs 6 of Diamonds 5 of Spades 2 of Spades

Not a bad flop for Dietz, but no favorable conclusion came for him.
