Day 1E is on it’s last 3 hands, as announced by the tournament director a few minutes ago. We witnessed a hand on table 24 that ran emotions through the roof for Shahar Ohaion and Zhiming Bao. Both players were all-in preflop with pocket pairs.

Shahar Ohaion: Jack of Clubs Jack of Diamonds

Zhiming Bao: Queen of Hearts Queen of Diamonds

The last player to fold said he’d just folded tens when the flop came out: 7 of Clubs 4 of Diamonds 10 of Spades .

As the players waited, the turn Jack of Spades came and made Shahar Ohaion smile and he sat back down.

Lady luck proved once again that she’s the boss, when a Queen of Clubs came out on the river.

Heads were nodding and ironic smiles were seen all around the table with global understanding between the players; that’s poker.

Shahar Ohaion heads for the rail as the remaining 52 players out of 396 entries receive the welcome bags, to store their chips for Day 2.

We came up on a somewhat joyous table to catch the tail end of a hand involving none other than the Oyster King himself Armand King.

The flop and turn were already out: 10 of Clubs Queen of Hearts 6 of Diamonds 2 of Clubs and action was on Arnold Yaxley.

Arnold checked and The King snapped a quick and spicy “all-in”, which was obviously not what Yaxley was hoping for. After a few minutes of deep decision-making, Arnold folded.

“I never bluff!” exclaimed the Oyster King with a huge smile, tabling his hand: 10 of Diamonds 10 of Spades having hit a set on the flop. The whole table laughed at his antics, and even Arnold Yaxley couldn’t hold back a good-natured smile.

Players took a short break after level 6. The registration period will close with the end of the 15-minute break.

The break gave us a chance to go around the remaining 20 tables and see who’s gaining the edge in chips. Four players have amassed over 100,000 chips which is a hefty sum considering that the average is at 40,000. Ian Tang leads the tournament with 170,300 chips, we’ll keep an eye on those chip leaders and see how things develop.

Players in Day 1E of the Colossus have just returned from their final break of the day and play will now continue uninterrupted for two levels, and everyone left at the end will qualify for Day 2 and bag their chips to bring back into action on Day 2. There are still 68 players left and that should drop a little bit before the end of the flight, but there are a lot of healthy stacks and not too many really short stacks left in play, so that could put the brakes on a little bit.

The current chip leader is a newcomer to the leaderboard, Mark Allott, but he’s followed by guys like Matthew Wilkins (who has been installed among the leaders for most of the day), Eric Leblond, and Carl Martel – players with plenty of experience and patience.

Play in Day 1E continues in level 12. The final break of the day is coming in about 10 minutes, and we’ll get a good look at the chip leaders going into the final stint at that time. Currently, there are 78 players remaining but the pace of play has slowed substantially as players begin to look forward to perhaps reaching the end of things for the night.

Here are a few photos taken during level 12.

Level 6 has just started here in the Tournament tent, where 198 players are still in the game. This 6th flight of Live Day 1s is going strong and players are trickling in.

The tournament board shows a very respectable total of 354 entries, including 57 re-entries. With still 45 minutes left in the registration period we can expect those numbers to go up slightly. Players have until the end of the break after level 6 (i.e.: beginning of level 7) to purchase a seat or take advantage of the single re-entry.

Here are more photos of the players from Level 5.
