The Colossus Day 1C is approaching it’s final moments. The tournament director has announced that there will only be four hands to play. As expected, most of the players are trying to grab some extra chips in order to bag the biggest stack possible.

There is definitely some interesting play in the air, and we just witnessed a massive fold by Ian Joanette. Francesco Tatto went all-in pre-flop for 93,000 and everyone folded quickly to Lucas Braga who surprised everyone by shoving all-in on top for 234,000. No one was more surprised than Ian Joannette who thought long and hard before achingly saying “fold” and announcing he had pocket Jacks.

Relief flooded Joannette when the hands were tabled.

Lucas Braga: Ace of Clubs Ace of Diamonds
Francesco Tatto: King of Spades 4 of Diamonds

The board of 6 of Diamonds Queen of Hearts 3 of Hearts 9 of Hearts 10 of Clubs did not help Francesco, and Lucas added some important chips to his stack.

Aligning style with utility – bring on the shades

In almost any other environment if we see people wearing sunglasses indoor we think they’ve either had laser surgery, a rough night or hiding a black eye. In a poker room, however, we don’t think twice when we see players sporting the shades to play.

Either for style or utility (or both), it does make for some interesting shots. Here are a few photos of the players from levels 4 through 6.

The end of the 2nd break signaled the end of the entry period. In total 215 entries, including 35 re-entries, were logged for this Day 1D flight of the Colossus event, which boasts a guaranteed prize pool of $1,000,000

We went around the tables during the break to bring you chip counts. With the average at 39,000 we were looking for stacks above 100,000 and sure enough we found three. Dan-David Amar is the clear leader with a 150,000 stack. It will be interesting to see how he manages the 4x average stack in the next 8 levels as play resumes.

Here are the chip leaders after 6 levels of play.

Michael Husted has taken the lead in Day 1C of the Colossus with just 2 levels left to play tonight. The entire top end of the leaderboard seems to consist of stacked players with experience in multi-day tournaments, and there are several players in the field who will feel that just under 2 levels is plenty of time to build up the stack they want to take to Day 2!

Dylan Maille-Thibault is a player that has had some success here at Playground Poker Club in the past, including a 3rd place finish in a $1.1K event here this past spring during. It looks like he’s working hard to set himself up for another deep run in the Colossus – He’s now up to over 240,000 in chips after eliminating Marc-David Vil when Vil called Dylan’s all-in bet on a Ace of Hearts 6 of Clubs 10 of Diamonds flop.

Vil: Ace of Diamonds King of Diamonds
    Maille-Thibault: 6 of Hearts 6 of Diamonds

Dylan was way ahead and would stay there on the 7 of Hearts 5 of Diamonds turn and river.

The action is going strong and steady in the Colossus Day 1D with 117 players still in from 194 entries. Players have until 9:15pm to enter or re-enter. We came up on an interesting hand and chances are this has happened to all of us. The whole table was quiet, with a moderate pot in the middle and only two players in the hand.

The board: 9 of Spades 10 of Hearts 10 of Diamonds 10 of Spades 10 of Clubs and Jean-Pascal Gauvain was all-in for 10,525.

Richard Tossings mulled things over for a while knowing that the kicker was key on the quad board. After a short while, lifting up his head he said “call” and Jean-Pascal’s shoulders slumped as he tabled 6 of Diamonds 7 of Diamonds playing the board. Richard opened up his hand: King of Diamonds Jack of Clubs . The king sent Gauvain to the rail and allowed Tossings to add another mound to his already above-average stack.
