As the players return to their seat following the first break of the afternoon, Kurtis Brooks leads the field on Day 1C. He is followed closely by David Glube, but their spots at the top of the leader board are far from safe.

There remains lots of play on Day 1C, and we are quickly closing in on 200 entries for this flight. With more than two hours to go in the late registration and re-entry period, the player that bags the chip lead at the end of the day may not even be in the field yet!

The clock is winding down on the third level of play on Day 1C of the Colossus. Almost 200 players have made their way into the field already, and there is still more than two and a half hours to go in the late registration and re-entry period for this flight. Sixteen players have fired a second bullet at this point, and we expect many more will follow suit in the levels to come.

The first break is just around the corner, stay tuned for the first leader board of the day.

Alex Liu captures the Big Bird’s bounty

Yu Xin Liu got a few surprises when he eliminated Larry Robinson from Day 1C of the Colossus. First, Liu, who hails from Calgary, Alberta, didn’t realize who he was up against and didn’t realize there was a bounty on his head! Robinson and Liu had played a few hands against each other and were having a good time chatting about the game. The rest of the players at the table, mostly Montreal natives, sat quietly awe struck and were quick to point out Robinson’s legendary status after he left the table.

Liu, who had been active and aggressive since sitting down at the table, opened the action from the cut-off on the hand in question. Robinson defended from the small blind, encouraging the big blind to come along. Robinson led out with a bet on the Ace of Diamonds 2 of Clubs 8 of Hearts flop, forcing the big blind out of the hand, and Liu made the call. The turn brought the 6 of Spades, and Robinson led out with another bet. Again, Liu made the call, and the two players watched the 3 of Spades hit the river. Robinson slowed down and checked to Liu. Liu quickly moved all in. After some thought, Robinson didn’t believe Liu’s story and made the call. Liu tabled aces-up, and it was good. Robinson shook hands with a few players at the table and gracefully made his exit.

Liu was seen with a look of disbelief as he was scrolling through Robinson’s wikipedia entry, learning about all the championships and awards in Robinson’s storied career, when he was informed that he would also collect a $500 partypoker LIVE bounty. It all makes for quite a start to Liu’s Colossus run!

There has been a steady flow of players into the tournament hall since the opening announcement, pushing the number of entries in this flight past 150 with only a few minutes gone in the second level of play. There is still plenty of time to register for Day 1C, as the late registration period closes at 4:30pm, and everyone in the field has the opportunity at a single re-entry.

Here’s a look at the field so far:

The action is heating up on Day 1C, as we approach the end of the first level of play. There have been over 140 entries so far, and the ice has been broken on the re-entries. Everyone in the field is familiar with the format-it offers a single re-entry on each Day 1 and nine starting flights-so the players are coming out firing, looking to run up their stacks as quickly as possible.

Today’s flight also offers some added value in the form of a bounty on Larry Robinson. Should anyone eliminate the habs legend this afternoon, they will claim a prize of $500 partypoker LIVE dollars!

    The Colossus continues

    2018/08/24 | 11:52 by Shawn McCrory

Event #1 of the WSOP-C Playground, the $300+$30 Colossus, has brought out a whopping 821 entries between the live and online starting flights that are in the bag. Day 1C kicks off at noon and will add significantly to the already impressive number of entries in this lead-off event.

Players will have until the beginning of the seventh level of play to join the field and try to run up their 20,000 chip starting stack. This is a single re-entry event so players can opt to fire a second bullet on each Day 1 starting flight before the end of the late registration period.

Larry “Big Bird” Robinson will be in the field this afternoon, with a bounty on his head. Whoever felts the hockey legend will collect a $500 partypoker LIVE dollar bonus!

The number of entries is ticking up by the minute, and the cards will be in the air soon. Good luck to all!
