Play is currently about half-way though level 2 of Day 1A in the Colossus, and attendance continues to impress with the field already surpassing the 160 entry mark – and more players joining every few minutes. Players aren’t playing a shy, retiring game either – there are already 8 re-entries and during our last tour of the room we already witnessed a few called all-in bets!

The field is as impressive as it is large – there is at least one WSOP bracelet winner in the field (Pablo Mariz) and at least one Circuit Ring winner, June Jenkins! There is one “corner” on table 26 that would strike fear into any player in any event – Patrick Braga, Carl Martel, and Pablo are seated in seats 3, 4, and 5.

Here are some additional shots of the field.

The Tournament Director has just made his opening announcements, and then he kicked off the action with his famous command to the dealers: Shuffle Up and Deal! And just like that, Day 1A in the Colossus in the WSOP-C Playground 2018 has begun.

Play today and in starting Day 1B to 1H in the Colossus will continue through 14 levels of 40 minutes each. There will be 15 minute breaks every third level, and players begin the tournament with a stack of 20,000 tournament chips. Blinds begin at 100-200 with a button ante of 100.

So far this morning there are 117 entries in the flight, which is a very solid figure considering that early Day 1s in a a multi-starting-day tournament are usually relatively small. At least so far, that doesn’t seem to be the case – and a $1,000,000 guarantee should be more than enough enticement to jump in at least once!

Good luck to everyone playing in the Colossus!

The final online qualifiers have booked their seats

    2018/08/23 | 11:37 by

Online Day 1D was the fourth and final online starting flight in the Colossus, and with 85 entries overall, 12 players booked a seat in Day 2 of the event.

The chip leader at the end of the night was Ellis Polsky, who bagged 353,500 chips at the end of the 14 levels of play. Much of the rest of the qualifier’s list from Day 1D is made up of well-known players at Playground Poker Club, including Rodney Ramalho (128,500) and Chris Annouza (168,000), to name but two of them.

Overall, this adds up to 37 total Day 2 qualifiers out of 389 entries so far. The chip average for the online qualifiers was 211,000 or just over 10x the starting stack, and this gives the players in the Live Day 1s, which begin today in the Tournament Hall at Playground Poker, a target to shoot for as they make their way through the 14 levels being played on each Day 1.

    Welcome to the Colossus!

    2018/08/23 | 11:04 by

It’s August 23rd, and here at Playground Poker Club, that means one thing: the beginning of the first-ever WSOP-C Playground! This marks the return of the World Series of Poker Circuit to Canada after a two-year absence, and is also the kick-off event of Season IV of the WSOP International Circuit. This series features a 7 WSOP-C Ring Events and a total of $4,000,000 in guaranteed prize pools – in other words, its guaranteed to be huge!

Live poker action gets underway today at 12:00pm with Day 1A of the Colossus, which is Event #1 in the WSOP-C Playground and features a $1,000,000 guarantee. The tournament is a $300 + $30 NL Hold’em event with one entry and one re-entry permitted per starting flight. Registration is open until the beginning of level 7 of each starting flight, and players may play in as many starting flights as they desire to try and qualify – with a huge stack – for Day 2.

Today is the beginning of Live starting flights in the Colossus, but it’s not really the beginning of the tournament. Four Online Day 1s have already been held on partypoker, and there are already 37 Day 2 qualifiers from the Online portion of the event. You can see all of the Day 1 results on the official Colossus – Combined Day 1 Results page.

Good luck to everyone playing today, and all week in the Colossus!

Another 8 Qualifiers from Online Day 1C

    2018/08/22 | 16:17 by

Online Day 1C began at 9:00pm on August 21st and played through 14 levels, as is the case for all Day 1s in the Colossus, and when the dust settled, 8 more players had qualified for Day 2 in the tournament. This 3rd of 4 Colossus starting flights on partypoker attracted 110 entries, bringing the total number of entries in Event #1 to 304, with one more Online starting flight and 9 Live starting flights yet to come. A total of 25 players have now qualified for Day 2.

The day saw two massively experienced and skilled players step into the #1 and #2 rank overall: Scott Montgomery amassed a stack of 539,260 chips, while in 2nd place last night – and overall, so far – was Timothy Ullmer with 453,416 chips. Robert Sibbald also managed to grow his stack past the 400K mark to 406,874, putting him in 4th place overall to this point in the event. Note that the stacks noted in the Combined Results files have been rounded up to the next 500 denomination – this will be the smallest chip in play to begin Day 2.

See all of the Day 1 results on the official Colossus – Combined Day 1 Results page.

Online Day 1D will begin tonight at 9:00pm, and tomorrow at 12:00pm is the first of the 9 Live flights in the event. Good luck to all who play!

Eight qualifiers from Online Day 1B

    2018/08/21 | 12:37 by

The second of four Online Day 1s in the Colossus was played last night on partypoker, and from 93 entries, 8 players have secured a spot in Day 2.

Ryan Boudreau was the player with the big stack when the 14 levels were complete, and he will have 393,500 chips to take to Day 2 – a great stack, though still short of the high water mark of 436,500 set by Jean-Philippe Beaulieu in Online Day 1A. Among the qualifiers is local player Dave Jeanneau-Cyr, who has 16 recorded cashes in major events here.

There’s another notable player on the list, Thomas “Sandy” Taylor, a Canadian player with a wealth of experience – he has 123 recorded tournament results in Hendon Mob – and could pass an important poker milestone in the event. He currently has $994,537 in recorded Live tournament winnings – a good result in the Colossus will see him pass the $1M mark in lifetime earnings!

There were some great players that fell short in Online Day 1B as well, including Mike Leah, Marc-André Ladouceur, Chanracy Khun, and Jimmy Setna, among others. These are huge names we’re certain to see again in this event. Online Day 1C is on tonight at 9:00pm, to be followed by Online Day 1D on Wednesday – and then the first of 9 Live Day 1s gets underway at 12:00pm on Thursday August 23rd.
