    David Bonneau wins Event #9

    2018/07/02 - 19:58 by

The final table of Event #9 – a $100 + $10 Deepstack Turbo event in the June Power Weekend – was an extremely fast affair. During the time it took to prepare the final table post, the first 5 players were already eliminated, as mentioned earlier tonight. When we did return to the table, the 5 players had decided on an ICM chop. Specifically, they chose to reserve $250 for the eventual winner while dividing the rest of the prize pool according to ICM values.

Once the deal was done, things moved along even more quickly. In less than 2 orbits, 2 of the remaining players were eliminated and just David Bonneau and Michael Chouinard remained – and David had about a 2:1 advantage in chips. It only took two preflop raise-and-take-it hands before the chips got in the middle, and Michael got it in good: King of Hearts 3 of Hearts against David’s call holding Queen of Hearts 10 of Hearts.

The flop had bad news for Michael, however: 6 of Diamonds 5 of Diamonds Queen of Diamonds – David had made top pair, and there were no hearts on board to give him a bigger sweat, Michael was drawing dead to a King or running treys. The turn suddenly – but too late – presented a heart: 8 of Hearts and the river 10 of Hearts just sealed the affair to David’s benefit.

Event #9 Champion: David Bonneau, $1,620

    Runner up: Michael Chouinard, $1,575

The final table has been reached in Event #9 and action has continued so quickly, half of the players have already been eliminated!

The following table provides more detail about the action so far.

Action in a Turbo is always super quick, but the bubble in today’s tournament was as fast as it gets! There were 17 players left on two tables with 15 places in the money – then on one table, an all-in and call, and on the other table, almost simultaneously an all-in and a call – and in both cases the short stack lost.

We missed the action in one of the two hands – the all-in player held Qx Tx on a flop of KQT while his opponent was on Kx Jx – the Jack on the river gave him a better two pair and Marray Kurtz was eliminated.

On the other table, Ozor Ibrahim shoved all-in for 83,000 chips and the player in the sb made the call holding Ace of Clubs Ace of Hearts – Ozor turned over Ace of Diamonds 10 of Spades and was drawing slim.

The board ran out in the Aces’ favour: Queen of Hearts Queen of Clubs 3 of Spades 2 of Diamonds 3 of Diamonds

And just like that, the remaining players were in the money. Congratulations!

Event #9 players are on break and when they return, there will be just 22 players left with 15 places paying – so the tournament is just 7 eliminations away from the money! In the last passage of play the leaderboard was again overturned – except for one player, Alexandre Beaudette, who has managed to rocket into first place – by 100,000 chips!

Turbo events, of course, move quickly, and today’s Event #9 is no exception – just a few minutes past 4 hours of play and the event is already well into level 14. The players have just returned from a break, and during their time away from the table we were able to generate a new leaderboard – and as we hinted at earlier this afternoon, it’s made up of entirely different people than an hour ago.
