Three quick eliminations

2017/02/02 - 19:34 by

The first 11 minutes of action have just passed and there have already been 3 eliminations. In the first, Roger Thibault got it in pre and found a call from Manon Dallaire and the cards were flipped:

Roger Thibault
Thibault: Ace of Spades 4 of Clubs Dallaire: Ace of Clubs Queen of Spades Dallaire had a big lead, and it only grew larger on the flop: 6 of Hearts 9 of Hearts 8 of Hearts. The turn 3 of Diamonds and river 6 of Clubs didn’t change the outcome and Thibault left in 29th place ($800). A few minutes later there were almost simultaneous eliminations on tables 40 and 36. First up – by a hair – was table 36. In the hand, action folded around to Martin Dyotte on the button who elected to go all-in with his last 320K. Tanvir Ahmed made the call from the big blind. Dyotte: King of Hearts 9 of Hearts Ahmed: 5 of Hearts 5 of Diamonds The flop eliminated much of the suspense: 5 of Spades 3 of Hearts Ace of Diamonds and the 9 of Clubs Jack of Clubs on the turn and river eliminated the rest – and the player, who was out in 28th place ($800). The 3rd of the 3 early eliminations was Rene-Philippe Noel, who started the day with just 160K and by the time of his elimination was playing a single big blind. In his final hand the action folded to him, but following his action (from the hijack), the button raised to 150K behind and the bb called.

Rene-Philippe Noel
The flop came 7 of Diamonds King of Hearts 4 of Clubs and the two players with action both checked. On the turn 7 of Clubs, the early position player bet 100K and the bb folded. The remaining live cards were tabled: Noel: Queen of Hearts 9 of Spades Big blind: Ace of Clubs Queen of Spades The river was the 10 of Clubs and Noel was eliminated. There has now been a redraw with 26 players remaining. This was added by the tournament director before play tonight – and there will also be another redraw at 18 players remaining (and at 10 players remaining as well, as originally scheduled). After a brief announcement from our tournament director, followed by the traditional “Shuffle up and Deal”, Day 3 of The Wild $150 is now officially underway!

29 players are here to battle it out on the felts on their quest to becoming the next The Wild $150 Champion! There is a full redraw scheduled for when the field drops to 27 players, as well as once we reach the 10-handed final table.

Stay tune via our own Playground Poker Blog for full coverage of tonight’s event, including chip counts, live updates and photographs.

Good luck to our Day 3 players!

In just under an hour, play is set to resume in Event $1, The Wild $150. There are 29 players remaining and play will continue tonight until a Champion is crowned and someone lays claim to the sweet Playground Winter Festival Champion’s Trophy.

Daniel Le and Yan Nadeau start the day as chip leaders – and they also start as table-mates. In fact, of the top 10 players left in the event, 6 of them will start the night on Table 35. This has upsides and downsides – obviously it’s more challenging to pit your big stack against so many other big stacks. On the other hand – there are more chips on the table to win! In any case, table 35 is scheduled to be the first table to break during the evening, so all of these super-stacked players will be distributed among the other tables reasonably soon tonight.

Action will resume in level 27 – blinds 25K/50K/a5K and with a chip average of 825,000, the two small stacks (Olivier Theriault-Boudreau and Rene-Philippe Noel at 160K each) will be under pressure from the start of the night, and there are 5 others playing sub-10-bb stacks, so expect the action to be fast… at least to start!

Good luck to all those who remain in the action!

Daniel Le
