The tournament has just returned from a short break, and we took this time to bring an update on the chip counts. Alexandre Lavigne has a huge lead on the field, holding a touch over 25% of the chips in play. Chad Coombs continues to steadily chip-up and sits comfortable in second place, while Nicolas Le Floch rounds the top 3.

Here are the full counts as play enters level 19:

Nicolas Le Floch and Daniel Dvoress limped into the pot for 5,000 before short-stacked Scott Diver raised all-in for 18,500 from the button. The blinds folded their cards, and Nicolas placed a 3-bet to 43,000, quickly triggering a fold from Daniel.

Once cards were tabled, the other players in the field didn’t seem too pleased with Nicolas’s isolation, as he tabled a mere 3 of Hearts 3 of Spades and was faced with the Ace of Spades 5 of Spades of Scott. Nicolas reassured them by flopping a set on the 3 of Clubs Jack of Hearts King of Spades 4 of Hearts 6 of Spades board to bring the Second Chance field into the money, as only 14 players remain.

Second Chance – Down to 18 players

2017/02/14 - 12:37 by

There have been 3 very quick eliminations in Day 2 of the Second Chance tournament this afternoon which has brought the tournament to its next seating redraw with 18 players remaining.

The 3 players that were eliminated were June Jenkins, Yuzhou Chu, and Serge Cantin.

The next milestone to be reached will be the money bubble. 14 players will be paid, so the tournament is just 3 eliminations away from that point.

The 21 players who are still in the Second Chance event have made their way to the tables and play has resumed for the final day in the tournament. Play resumes just 3 eliminations away from the next seating redraw which is scheduled to take place with 18 players remaining – when the tourney reduces to just 2 remaining tables.

Second Chance Day 2 seating chart (with counts)

2017/02/14 - 1:16 by

After 15 levels of play on Day 1, the $1,500 + $150 Second Chance came to a close with 21 players still “alive” and vying for the title, the trophy, and the $157,140 in total prize money at stake. Play will resume on February 14th at 12:00pm.

When play does resume, the players will be seated in the following locations and starting with the stack sizes they bagged at the end of Day 1, listed below. Note that because the tournament had recently completed a full redraw at 27 players remaining, and is scheduled for an additional redraw at 18 players remaining, this seating order is a continuation of the state that existed at the end of Day 1.

Former chip leader Ted Doukas is out; Chad Coombs sky-rockets

Chad Coombs

Ted Doukas, a well-known poker player on the Canadian scene, just busted from the Second Chance Event. We do not know the circumstances in which he had lost his lead, but we know that he dropped from 180K to just under 100K. Since the 27-player redraw, he was very active on table, especially in the last few hands prior to his elimination. He was raising the 2.4K big blind to 5,4K more often than not, and was met with noticeable resistance. He had to fold a lot of those to 3-bets, until he finally found his spot, and placed a 4-bet.

On that hand, after his 5.4K raise, chip leader Chad Coombs, who had a few good results at Playground Poker Club’s 2016 World Cup of Cards, made it 14.8K to go. Doukas thought for a short while, and brought that up to 35.9K. Coombs went to the tank himself, knowing that the next raise would mean all-in. He did just that, got the all-in card, and Doukas instantly called, only to realize how bad a shape he was in.

Ted Doukas:    Queen of Spades Queen of Hearts
Chad Coombs: Ace of Clubs Ace of Hearts

Board: 7 of Spades Jack of Spades 5 of Hearts King of Clubs Ace of Diamonds

The river came down as the overkill, and Doukas made his way out of the room. Coombs, who already had the lead, now crushes the Second Chance field brutally without about 360K, almost twice as much ammo as his closest rival, with 23 left.

There is now 20 minutes left in Day 1. A full Day 2 qualifier list will be published shortly after the completion of today’s Day 1, including player-reported chip counts.
