Three flights have passed us in The $250 Frenzy, and 3 more remain. So far this 3rd event of the Playground Poker Winter Festival has seen a combined 446 entries take place, bringing it on pace to surpass the $200,000 guarantee boasted by the house.

Tonight’s flight is looking to be a popular one as already 75 players have registered before the tournament has even begun. Late registration will remain open though until the end of the first break, allowing for players to join in the action up until 8:15pm. Two more flights remain tomorrow, with Day 1E at 10am and Day 1F at 6pm.

Starting stacks are of 20,000 each, with blinds set at 3o-minutes long for Day 1 and Day 2, before increasing to 40-minutes long on the final day. Day 2 is scheduled for Monday evening at 7pm.

See you on the felts!

Here is a hand that was played by Patrick Boisvert and Jonathan G, both in the top 3 of our last leaderboard. They are sitting on both sides of the dealer, at the far corner’s table. Patrick was in the small blind, Jonathan in the big blind, and both were looking at the 2 of Diamonds Queen of Clubs 2 of Hearts flop when we got to the table. Patrick led it with 6.5k, into what looked like a min-raised pot. Jonathan called, and the turn came the Queen of Diamonds. This time, Patrick check-called 8.5K. When the Ace of Spades appeared on the river, the table was turned once again, as Patrick led for 15K. Jonathan tanked for a while, and finally elected to fold his hand.

It is natural to imagine that Patrick placed a continuation bet with ace high, check-called when the turn brought a 2-pair board, and then led again when he hit his ace, but this just might be what he decided to represent. A great example of how not to fear getting into a hand with another deep stack.

There is 40 minutes left to this flight, after which we will bring you the list of qualifiers.

With only 3 levels to go before surviving players bag their chips, Patrick Boisvert is still 2nd in chips. His consistency is definitely notable, and it will be interesting to see how he will perform in the last stint. The lead, however, has changed from Giordano’s hands – who is still very healthy, with about 90K to his name – to Ali Awada’s. Ali is featured below, performing what looked like a tough fold. Next to him is Patrick, second place.

The $250 Frenzy is approaching its last break, and the field is dropping steadily. Only 6 tables are left, and it is expected that about half of the remaining players will have the chance to add their names to the list of 57 qualifiers, derived from the first 2 starting flights. After the break, 3 more levels will be played, after which we will make room for Day 1d of this great 6-flight Event.

Here are some more shots of the action:

After 8 levels of play, it is Gianfranco Giordano who counts the most chips. His stack looks very intimidating on a table that otherwise isn’t very rich. Patrick Boisvert also managed to gather quite a few chips, sitting in second place on the leaderboard.  Both of them enter the third segment very comfortably, having more than 150 big blinds to work with.

Day 1c of The Frenzy is nearing its second break, and the field just dropped under 100 players. Blinds are now 300-600-a75, allowing for a bigger pot-size average, and for leaders to evade the pack. We will bring you a list of those rising stacks in about a half-hour.
