13 players qualify for Day 2

2017/02/09 - 2:28 by Jôle Simard

After 12 levels of hard PLO action, 13 players are now bagging their chips, to be reopened tomorrow at the start of Day 2, 7pm sharp.

Tonight was the Manfred show. He was making jokes, talking his opponents into respecting his bets and calls in all possible ways, having fun with the boys, and more importantly, claiming pots. He sends the biggest stack to Day 2, having put away 306,300 in chips. His closest rival is Nicolas Le Floch, with 230,700. Everybody else is below 150K, but all still have a shot at a very nice prize pool, which is detailed below.

See you tomorrow!

Rank | PosPrize | Bourse
1st$9,240.00
2nd$6,255.00
3rd$4,200.00
4th$2,830.00

6th$1,280.00

With about 45 minutes to go before the adjournment of the $500 + $50 PLO Event, Nicolas Le Floch leads with a little over 200K. Manfred Gunther is not too far behind with about 180K, and they both rule their respective tables. In PLO, having a much bigger stack than your opponent(s) is an immense advantage, and these two sure know how to work it.

As if to make things worse for his opponents, Manfred, on top of playing his stack, hits boards! Here is a hand that he tabled on a showdown with Ivan Driard. On the river, there was about 21K in the pot, and Manfred bet 6.5K. Ivan asked for the pot size, and thought for about a minute, looking at the 3 of Clubs King of Spades Jack of Diamonds King of Clubs Queen of Diamonds board. He finally called, and Manfred casually announced: ”Nutter butter”, and showed King of Hearts King of Diamonds 3 of Spades 10 of Hearts.

Players halt play at around 2:10 am, at which point they will bag their chips onto Day 2, held tomorrow night at 7pm.

After 8 levels of play, Charles Bensimon is comfortably leading the PLO Event with 121,500 in chips. He is followed by Manfred Gunther. They are sitting at the same table, and are the only ones with a 6-digit stack. Adding to that, Manfred is a quite a volatile player, to use his own words, and sparks are likely to fly over there in the near future.

Here is a list of our top 6 stacks at the moment of the break, followed by some shots of the field:

Registration is now closed in Event 9, the $500 + $50 PLO. After 6 levels of registration, 48 players bought in, and 5 of them used the Re-entry option, for a total of 53 entries. It is not a bad number for a PLO tournament with a buy-in of that size.

Moments before the registration closing time, Ron Farber took out 2 players in one swoop. Bilal Abbas was all-in for just a few chips, and 2 players had come along raising, creating a side pot for themselves. Ron Farber and Andrew Johnson checked both the flop and the turn, until the river started a war.

Board: Jack of Spades 8 of Diamonds 10 of Diamonds 6 of Clubs 2 of Diamonds

On the river, Farber announced pot, and Johnson quickly pushed his stack forward. Farber could not have opened his cards faster, and uttered the hurtful words: ”I have the nuts!”

Ron Farber:           Ace of Diamonds 9 of Diamonds 6 of Hearts 5 of Hearts
Andrew Johnson: 7 of Diamonds Ace of Spades King of Diamonds 7 of Clubs

Abbas threw his cards in, and Farber raked in both pots, adding a considerable amount of chips to his stack.
