Day 2 of the partypoker.net WPT Playground has just been completed, and from the 157 runners that started the day, 28 remained to bag chips onto Day 3. The race atop the leaderboard is very close, as the top 4 players are within 3 big blinds of each other – however the official title of chip leader goes to Hendrik Latz, who will return to the felts with 838,000 chip tomorrow.

Hendrik Latz who took over the chip-lead in the last moments of Day 2 by eliminating Nicolas Le Floch. He only bagged 4K more than previous chip-leader Jean-Pascal Savard, who began Day 2 near the top of the leaderboard and maintained a healthy stack throughout the 9 levels of play. Jean-Pascal took over the chip-lead just before dinner break by eliminating Michel-Claude Baroud, and then extended his lead by knocking out Thundup Ringpa on the money-bubble with Ace of Hearts Ace of Diamonds over Ace of Clubs King of Clubs for nearly half-a-million in chips.

Eric Afriat bagged 825,000 for the third biggest stack of the day. He leaped far ahead of the field early in Day 2, and stayed atop the leaderboard until Jean-Pascale took control just before the dinner break. Kelly Kellner rounds the top 4 with a stack of 809,000, and he too is right on the tail of the chip-lead.

Below is a list of the player-reported chip counts from the end of Day 2. There will be a seating redraw for Day 3, which we will publish in a few moments. Re-draws will then taken place when the field drops to 27 players, 18 players and then one last time for the 10-handed “unofficial” final table.

Three players who have made a WPT Main Event final table here at Playground Poker Club are still in the running – Ema Zajmovic (5th in November 2016 for $102,010), Jake Schwartz (6th in November 2016 for $81,740) and Carter Swidler (5th in November 2015 for $108,410).

Day 3 begins at 12pm tomorrow, and you can follow all the action via our own Playground Poker Blog.

See you tomorrow!

With the players on a 45-minute dinner break, we did a full tour of the room and counted all the stacks of the 54 remaining players – listed in the table below.

Jean-Pascal Savard

Jean-Pascal Savard has taken over the chip-lead after eliminating Michel-Claude Baroud not long ago. Eric Afriat, who peaked at 650K, currently holds the second largest stack with 509K to his name.

The money-bubble is very near, as only 7 eliminations separate the field from securing a cash prize. Only 2 players fall below the 10 big blind mark – Marc Guerbilsky and Marc-Andre Ladouceur. 9 more players are below the 20 big blind mark, and are also going to feel the pressure of the bubble when they return.

Play will continue through 3 more 1-hour levels before the surviving players bag their chips onto Day 3, which takes place tomorrow at 12pm.

Event 11 Champion: Pierre-André Prévost

2017/02/12 - 7:56 by Jôle Simard

Event 11 in the Playground Poker Winter Festival, a $150 + $30 + $150 NL Hold’em 50/50 Bounty has just concluded. This Bounty Event maxed our capacity when 230 players registered for it, which led to a 12-hour marathon. The prize pool for this tournament was divided into 27 payouts, plus the $150 Bounties, which were being won and stacked higher and higher as the Event progressed.

Mathieu Boulanger-Vaugeois led the field for the longest time, but a series of unfortunate events brought him down to average, and he eventually busted just before the formation of the final table. Benjamin Ménard took his spot under the sun, and kept it from about a 30-player game until Charles-Éric Benoit raced past him, collecting some extra bounties in the process.

When 8 players remained, they decided to take a look at the ICM numbers, and everyone agreed to them, leaving $600.00, the Champion’s Trophy, and the Bounties on the table. After that, as tradition has it, play accelerated noticeably, and finalists dropped like flies.

The heads-up match between Bill Kontaratos and Pierre-André Prévost was different though. The other players left in such a short span of time that it left the pair with about 20 big blinds each, and with the trophy on the table, they played very seriously. They exchanged the lead a few times, until Pierre-André lost a huge all-in, leaving him with a little over 300K out of the Event’s 4.6M chips in play. That’s when he went on a tear – he could not lose a hand. The final blow came immediately after he got the lead. His Ace of Hearts 2 of Clubs got the best of Bill Kontaratos’ Ace of Diamonds 4 of Clubs, when the 2 of Diamonds 6 of Diamonds King of Spades 8 of Spades 10 of Diamonds board brought a quick deuce.

Event 11 Champion: Pierre-André Prévost – $3,115.00 and the Champion’s Trophy

Runner-up: Bill Kontaratos – $2,640.00

The 10 levels scheduled to be played during Day 1B of the WPT Playground are now complete, and we are ready to move onto Day 2. From the 380 total entries that took place, 159 bagged chips at the end of their starting flights, including 54 from Day 1A and 105 from Day 1B.

The biggest stack of the flight belongs to Michel-Claude Baroud, who bagged a hefty 201,800 – a touch shy of the overall chip leader Anthony Zinno (209,200) but still second in chips overall for Day 2. Other big stacks from Day 1B include Jean-Pascal Savard (186,400), Zachary Donovan (165,400), Ramesh Puradchithasan (162,000), Ruben Perceval (156,500), Thundup Ringpa (153,800), Doug Hartwick (144,700) and Kelly Kellner (135,800). The full list of player-reported chip counts from the two starting flights are available here: Day 1A | Day 1B. Seating assignments for Day 2 will be published when tournament staff makes it available.

A cool $241,500 is reserved for the eventual tournament champion, in addition to a US$15,000 WPT Tournament of Champions seat, valued at C$19,500. The top 48 players will lock in a cash prize, and an appearance on the 6-handed final table will secure a $45,690 cash. Information about the prize-pool and payout structure can be found here.

Day 2 takes place tomorrow at 12pm, and will play through 9 levels of 1-hour before players bag onto Day 3. As a reminder, all qualifiers will need to bring a piece of photo ID with them to the felts tomorrow.
