The Wild $150 Champion: Karim Idrissi

The kickoff event to the Playground Poker Winter Festival has just come to an end, and the 1,197 entry-field has been reduced to just one single player, our The Wild $150 Champion – Karim Idrissi!

Through 4 starting flights, 240 players managed to bag chips onto Day 2, of which 117 secured a cash prize. Once the clock ran out in Day 2, only 29 players remained with chips in hand. Daniel Le was leading the pack at the time, however a few hands mid-way through Day 3 saw him fall in 10th place.

By the time the field had been reduced to the final table, it was Karim Idrissi who was in the driver seat. He managed to hold on to the chip lead until action fell 3-handed, at which point Alexandre Gaudreau chipped his way into chip-lead. A 3-way ICM deal was struck at this point, allocating $20,451 to Alexandre, $18,619 to Arnold Yaxley, and $18,482 to Karim – with an additional $3,000 was set aside for the eventual tournament champion, as stipulated by the rules.

Alexandre was the first to get eliminated after the deal, and heads-up play began between Arnold and Karim – with Karim holding a 3-to-1 chip advantage. Before long Arnold found two quick double-ups to put him in the lead, and the two continued back-and-forth for the better part of 3 levels.

After 90 minutes of heads-up play, Arnold min-raised to 1-million from the button, and Karim 3-bet to 2.5 million from the big blind. With showing, Karim lead out for 2.5 million, and quickly called when Arnold moved all-in for just over 8-million. Arnold tabled and was far behind the of his opponent. Karim had the tournament locked-in by the turn, and the was dealt as a formality.

With that pot, Karim claimed victory in this opening event to the Playground Poker Winter Classic, collecting a cool $21,482 along the way, as well as the Champion’s Trophy.

Here is the official seating chart for Day 2 of The Wild $150, Event 1 in the 2017 Playground Winter Festival.

There were a total of 1,197 entries in the event, and 244 of those qualified with stacks to Day 2. This is a best stack forward event, however, and there were 4 players who qualified twice for Day 2 (Guillaume Tremblay with 130,500 & 31,000; Nicholas Civitarese with 165,000 & 34,500; Daniel Fortier with 125,500 & 33,500; Stephen Langlois with 40,000 & 147,000). Therefore, by rule, each of these players have had their smaller stack removed from play.

This leaves 240 players set to resume play at 7:00pm tonight (Wednesday February 1st) who will be seated as follows.

Pin-Disle bags the lead in Day 1D as The Wild $150 gets ready for Day 2

The final flight of The Wild $150 is now complete with 66 players remaining, and the tournament is set to move on to the next stage: Day 2. The surviving players from all 4 starting flights will be united tomorrow night at 7pm, where we will see the field go through the money-bubble and end the night with only 3 or 4 final tables, who will return for the conclusion of the event on Thursday.

The biggest stack from Day 1D belongs to Simon Pin-Disle, who bagged 311,000, good for second overall after Imran Hussain’s 312,500 chip-lead stack. Abraham Jungreis bagged the third biggest stack overall, ending his Day 1D with 297,000 in chips.

In a few moments we will publish the full list of player-reported chip counts from all 4 flights, as well as the seating assignments for tomorrow’s Day 2. As a reminder, players will need a valid photo ID with them when they arrive at the tables tomorrow.
