Pierre-Paul Paulin opened to 1,300 from early position, and Carl Des Granges flat called from middle position. Peter Jetten 3-bet to 6,000 from the button, Pierre-Paul folded and Carl announced all-in. Without too much hesitation, Peter made the call, creating a 6-figure pot.

Carl: Queen of Clubs Queen of Spades
Peter: Ace of Hearts Queen of Hearts

There wasn’t much hope for Peter once the window card showed a queen, and with the final board reading 9 of Clubs 2 of Hearts Queen of Diamonds 6 of Clubs 3 of Hearts, Peter saw his roughly 55,000 stack get slid across the table to Carl, who had his opponent covered by a very small margin. Carl is now close to the 120,000 mark here near the end of level 8.

There was already around 20K in the pot when the rest of the money went in on the turn between Manig Loeser and Nicolas Le Floch. With the community cards showing Jack of Hearts Jack of Diamonds King of Spades 10 of Hearts, Manig tabled King of Clubs Queen of Clubs and needed to improve on the river if he wanted to beat the Ace of Clubs Ace of Spades of his opponent. Once the 4 of Diamonds came on the last street, Nicolas slid forward 16,925 to be doubled up, leaving Manig with under 3,000 behind.

Ted Doukas called Carl Des Granges pre-flop open, and then proceeded to call a bet on all three streets of the 8 of Clubs Ace of Hearts 8 of Diamonds King of Spades 9 of Diamonds board, including a 15K bet on the turn, and a 30K river bet. When all was said and done, Carl tabled 10 of Spades 10 of Clubs, and was bested by the Ace of Clubs 6 of Clubs of Ted – who climbed above the 120K mark with that hand.

With the board showing 2 of Diamonds 10 of Hearts 5 of Clubs 9 of Clubs Jack of Clubs, Dean Murphy moved all-in first to act in a 3-way pot. His 13,050 bet, which was roughly pot-sized, was met with a call from Zheng “Ziggy” Xie and from Upeshka De Silva.

Dean tabled Jack of Hearts 9 of Hearts for two-pairs, but he was beat by both players, as Ziggy tabled King of Clubs Queen of Diamonds for the nut-straight, and Upeshka flashed his set of 5s. With that pot, Ziggy climbed up to around 75K, while Upeshka dropped to only a handful of big blinds.

2017/02/10 - 18:46 by

The players in today’s Day 1A flight of the WPT Playground have just completed a 45-minute dinner break during which they were treated to a fine complimentary buffet. Now re-energized, play has begun for the final 4 levels to be played tonight.

With the end of the dinner break comes the end of the registration period, meaning that no new players and no more re-entries will be admitted today. Players who wish to take another shot in the event are welcome to come back tomorrow!

There were a total of 18 re-entries today adding up to a total of 134 entries today. The very last entrant in the tournament today also happens to be one of the players on a hot streak – Christian Harder has joined the WPT Playground fresh off his very successful trip to the Bahamas in January.

Play continues in level 7 with 96 players currently seated and a chip average of almost 42K.

After finishing on the good end of a massive pot against Sylvain Siebert, Garry Jansen now leads the Day 1A field of the WPT Playground after 6 levels of play. He and Pascal Lefrancois are the only two players to have crossed into the 6-figures so far, however Garry holds a 35K lead over Pascal.

With the players currently on a 45-minute dinner break, we took this chance to bring an update to the leaderboard. Below are the top counts after 6 hours of play.

As a reminder, the late registration period will close at the end of the dinner-break. So far 116 players have registered in this flight, with 17 of them having done a re-entry. Tomorrow will be the last chance to participate in the WPT Playground, with Day 1B kicking off at 11am. Much like today, late registration will remain open until 6:15pm.
