The first break of Day 2 has come and gone, and with the end of the break comes the end of the late registration period in the tournament – from here on out, it’s a freezeout tournament!
This is a very dynamic period in the event because some players will calm down, knowing that stack preservation is a key when there are no more re-entries – while others will use the threat of taking players out to build up a big – or usually, an even bigger – stack of their own.
The final number of entries was 2,401, and even considering all of the entries and re-entries today, there are just 782 players remaining. This number will start to drop much more quickly than before, since no new entries are joining in.
The chip leader at this point is Alon Messica who is playing just a hair under 700K in chips. Danny Freitas is still among the leaders as well, and a new name on the leaderboard is none other than Eric Afriat.
