Day 2 of Strangers in the Night has just been completed with 14 players finding a bag for tomorrow’s final chapter. A cash prize of $1,170 is now locked in for all remaining players, with some very interesting pay-jumps coming up in Day 3. The top 3 spots will earn a 5-figure payday, while $23,000 is reserved for the tournament champion.

William Blais went on a heater in the final levels of play, running up an impressive 5,595,000 stack – over 30% of the chips in play, and good for the overwhelming chip lead. Below are the player-reported chip counts, as well as the seating draw for Day 3, which takes place Thursday at 7pm.

See you tomorrow!

Jean-Francois Daunais opened to 105,000 from middle position after Martin Fortin limped in from under the gun. Martin replied with a 3-bet to 355,000, and Jean-Francois made the call.

Once a 10 of Clubs 5 of Spades 5 of Diamonds flop was dealt, Martin continued with a quick bet of 425,000. Jean-Francois raised all-in for 652,000 total, setting off alarm bells in Martin’s head. He tanked for a few moments but inevitably made the call for a few more chips.

Jean-Francois: King of Hearts King of Spades
Martin: Ace of Diamonds Queen of Hearts

Jean-Francois only had a few outs to fade to secure his double-up, and a Jack of Clubs turn and 4 of Clubs river sealed the deal for him. Martin was left with around 400,00 behind, while Jean-Francois sprung up to over 2 million.

Only one level remains before the close of Day 2.

We missed the exact action, but when we arrived at table 61 a huge pot had developped pre-flop, leading to a 3-way all-in. Yu Chen Chen (980,000), holding the biggest of the 3 stacks involved in the hand, had two opponents at risk: Alexandre Lauziere (231,000) and William Blais (785,000).

Yu: Queen of Spades Queen of Hearts
Alexandre: King of Spades 5 of Spades
William: 10 of Diamonds 10 of Spades

Yu started as a big favourite, however William flopped a set and held for the win on a 6 of Clubs 10 of Clubs 9 of Diamonds 9 of Hearts 5 of Hearts board to win a pot north of 1.8 million, putting him in charge here late in Day 2 of Strangers in the Night. Alexandre was sent to the rail, while Yu was crippled to a handful of big blinds.
