Day 1E comes to a close

2017/11/05 - 18:52 by Jôle Simard

The tournament director has announced the last 4 hands, and players will be bagging their chips momentarily. Jean-François Langevin and Scott Glendenning have had a sudden burst in chip count, and will appear among the leaders along with Yannick Lamarre-Delooz, Nassim Kabbara and Pinto S, whose aces eliminated Éric Leblond on level 13.

The full list of qualifiers will be added to the combined results shortly. Moving to Day 1F!

Level 13 just started in Day 1E of the $250 Frenzy. As a reminder, 14 levels are played today, which means our players have a little less than an hour to build a stack worth bagging. If you have qualified but are not satisfied with the amount of chips waiting for you on Day 2, you can still get to your objective by playing in tonight’s Day 1F, the last starting flight of Event #4.

Some random photographs of our 68-player remaining field:

Players are currently resuming play after taking their last break of the day. Updating the leaderboard, we confirmed that Yannick Lamarre-Delooz is our actual chip leader, as a result of the hand described in our last post. Nassim Kabbara is right up there with him, only a few chips behind.

2017/11/05 - 16:36 by Jôle Simard

This huge hand started with Michael M raising the 1K blind from an early position to 4.5K. Mark Larsen, who had 11,700 left, sent them into the pot. Yannick Lamarre-Delooz, seemingly trying to isolate Larsen, pushed 45K forward, putting Michael to the test.

Michael sized his opponent for a while, and decided to make the call, keeping about 40K behind. As the dealer was finishing to sort out the pots, Yannick announced all-in before the flop was revealed. Michael calmly waited for the first 3 community cards to open. 9 of Spades Jack of Clubs 6 of Diamonds. He made the call, and all 3 players tabled their hand:

Yannick Lamarre-Delooz: Ace of Clubs King of Clubs
Michael M: Queen of Clubs Queen of Diamonds
Mark Larsen: 8 of Diamonds 8 of Hearts

Michael was looking good, but 2 more cards were to come. 9 of Clubs Ace of Hearts! Yannick had improved on the turn, and made the kill on the river, sending 2 players to the rail and earning a huge pot. He is now sitting on about 200K, more than 4 times the average. You can see him below, moments after the hand, messaging his friends about his feat or simply switching his soundtrack to a victory song.

After 8 levels of play, Brandon Kitchen has built a very nice arsenal. He is sitting on 150,500 chips, enough to strike fear in his opponents whenever he plays a hand. He is followed by Pinto S (111,000), and another handful of players are approaching 6 figures. Some of their photos are posted below.

Play resumes at 400/800/a800.

Walking around the tables in the past level, we could see many all-in cards being thrown on the felts. With blinds having reached 300/600/a600, it is the time chosen by many short-stacked players to make it or break it. We have lost 40 players in the last hour, and eliminations should consequently slow down a bit at some point before the upcoming break.

Stay tuned for the leaderboard!
