Event 3 Champion: Raymond Kay

Raymond Kay outlasted 1331 other competitors to emerge as the champion of Event 3 – $225 + $25 No Limit Hold’em ‘Frenzy’! In heads-up play against Jean-Francois Lescadres, Raymond saw his stack fall rather short before winning two big pots that eventually lead to his victory.

In the last hand of play, Raymond opened the action preflop from the button. On the 8 of Spades 6 of Hearts 4 of Spades flop, Jean-Francois check-raised Raymond, and then called Raymond’s 3bet shove. When they opened their hands, they saw they were virtually flipping.

Raymond showed down 10 of Spades 10 of Hearts, and was against the flush and straight draws of Jean-Francois, who was holding Ace of Spades 7 of Spades. The pair of tens improved to a straight, with the running cards showing the 9 of Diamonds and the 7 of Hearts, and this was good enough to win the pot.

Raymond earned a cool $50,000 for his first place finish, as well as a Playground Poker Fall Classic bracelet. Jean-Francois received a consolation prize of $34,270, not too shabby for a $225 + $25 buy-in!

Congratulations Raymond! We hope to see you at the Main Event!

Raymond Kay opened from utg to 600K, and was faced with a big 3bet from Lesley Amos in the big blind. He pondered for a moment before announcing all-in, and Lesley made the quick call.

Raymond: 7 of Clubs 8 of Clubs

Lesley: Queen of Diamonds Queen of Clubs

Raymond found some luck, making a straight on the 5 of Spades Jack of Hearts 9 of Hearts 6 of Hearts Queen of Spades board, and Lesley was sent to the rail in 3rd place.

We are now heads-up between Jean-François Lescadres (15,350,000) and Raymond Kay (11,200,000).

Sitting on the chip lead only a few hands ago, Thomas Wintermans lost two big pots to Jean-Francois Lescadres which sent him home in 4th place.

In the second hand, Jean-Francois made a raise preflop from the small blind, which was called by Thomas in the big blind. On a flop of 4 of Diamonds 5 of Diamonds 10 of Spades, Jean-Francois c-bet 550K, which was followed by a raise to 1.3M from Thomas, and finally a shove by the original raiser. Thomas tanked for a few minutes before committing the chips, but found himself far behind.

Thomas: Jack of Hearts 5 of Spades

Jean-Francois: King of Diamonds 5 of Hearts

With no improvement on the 4 of Hearts turn and 6 of Hearts river, Thomas saw his 12 million chip  stack evaporate in one orbit.

4th place: Thomas Wintermans – $16,297

We’ve seen very few flops since coming back from the break on this final table of Event 3, as most pots are won uncontested preflop. In a recent hand, Jean-Francois Lescadres doubled up through the chip leader Thomas Wintermans.

Jean-Francois opened to 500K form the small blind, and insta-called when Thomas moved all-in from the big blind.

Jean-Francois: 9 of Diamonds 9 of Clubs

Thomas: Ace of Diamonds Queen of Clubs

Board: 9 of Spades King of Spades 5 of Spades 2 of Spades King of Clubs

With that hand, Jean-Francois increased his stack to just over 7.8 million, while Thomas dropped to around 7 million.

That was the last hand of level 33.

Rick Shamshoum moved in for 2,225,000 from the cutoff, and got a tank-call from Jean-Francois Lescadres in the big blind.

Rick: Ace of Clubs 8 of Spades

Jean-Francois: Ace of Spades 10 of Spades

The board (10 of Hearts 9 of Diamonds : 4s Ace of Hearts 3 of Diamonds) was not favourable for Rick, as it paired Jean-Francois, and he was sent home in 5th place.

5th place: Rick Shamshoum – $12,290

With around 15 big blinds, Edward Hislop min-raised from utg+1. Thomas Wintermans 3bet shoved his massive stack from the small blind, and got called by Edward.

Thomas: King of Diamonds 7 of Diamonds

Edward: Jack of Spades Jack of Clubs

Thomas came from behind and flopped a flush on the Queen of Diamonds 3 of Diamonds 5 of Diamonds King of Hearts Queen of Spades board to continue his rush at this final table, eliminating Edward in the process.

Two hands after losing almost half his stack, Michael Malm 3bet shoved his last 1.5 million from the button, following a cutoff raise by Thomas Wintermans.

Michael: King of Clubs Jack of Hearts

Thomas: 9 of Spades 9 of Hearts

Michael couldn’t improve on the Queen of Spades 3 of Diamonds 8 of Diamonds 4 of Diamonds 10 of Spades board, and his attempt at a second Playground Poker Event bracelet fell short.

7th place: Michael Malm – $8,250

With just over 1 million chips left, Raymond Kay open-shoved from the cutoff position. Michael Malm made the call from the big blind, committing nearly 40% of his chips.

Raymond: Ace of Spades Queen of Diamonds

Michael: King of Spades Queen of Spades

Michael took the lead on the flop, but it was inevitably Raymond who won the hand on the King of Hearts 5 of Spades 10 of Diamonds 7 of Diamonds Ace of Clubs board. Michael now has around 1.5 million, while Raymond climbed over the 2.2 million mark.

After flat calling Raymond Kay’s preflop raise in position, Thomas Wintermans went heads-up to a flop of Queen of Diamonds 6 of Hearts 9 of Hearts. Raymond placed a continuation bet of 575,000, to which Thomas responded with a raise to 1,415,000 (holding just over 3 million behind). Raymond took a moment before announcing all-in, and Thomas made a quick call.

Raymond: Ace of Spades Queen of Clubs

Thomas: 6 of Spades 6 of Clubs

The running cards (King of Hearts 5 of Spades) changed nothing, and Thomas won a pot of over 9.5 million, making him once again our current chip leader. Raymond still holds around 1.5 million to his name.
