Alexandre Blanc opened the action in the hand by raising all-in preflop from middle position, and Jeffrey Mulder called with his shorter stack from the cutoff. The blinds folded and the cards were exposed.

Alexandre: 10 of Diamonds 10 of Spades

Jeffrey: Ace of Hearts Jack of Clubs

Two clubs on the 4 of Clubs 5 of Clubs Queen of Hearts flop gave Jeffrey a glimmer of hope, and the turn 9 of Clubs was even more hopeful… but the 8 of Spades on the river ended Jeffrey’s run in the WPT Montreal

16th place: Jeffrey Mulder, $22,960.00

Jeffrey Mulder opened to 50,000 from the button, and Samuel Chartier 3bet to 146,000 from the small blind. Heads-up on the 2 of Diamonds King of Clubs 7 of Hearts flop, Samuel lead out for 95,000, and called Jeffrey’s raise to 225,000. The turn brought the 4 of Clubs, and Samuel rapped the table for a check, which was followed by a quick check by Jeffrey. On the river 2 of Spades, Samuel checked once again, to which Jeffrey replied with a bet of 240,000. Samuel went into the tank for a minute before announcing the call, and Jeffrey threw his hand into the muck. Samuel tabled Ace of Clubs 6 of Diamonds for ace-high, and took the massive pot. Jeffrey was crippled to just under 275,000.

It seemed like a pretty normal steal attempt, small on big, but when Jeremie Damret called Samuel Chartier’s shove his tournament life was at risk.

Samuel: Ace of Diamonds 8 of Spades
Jeremie: King of Clubs 7 of Clubs

Samuel’s Ace-high was ahead and the board runout of Queen of Spades Queen of Hearts Jack of Spades Queen of Clubs 4 of Hearts was no help to Jeremie.

17th place: Jeremie Damret, $22,960.00

First huge hand of the day

Edward Arnold has been eliminated in 18th place in the first major hand of the day.

With a lot of chips already in a 4-way pot, Edward went all-in on the flop of 6 of Spades Jack of Clubs 8 of Clubs. One player folded, and then Ratharam Sivagnanam went all-in over the top – and as soon as he did, Kevin MacPhee jammed as well.

Edward: 6 of Hearts 6 of Diamonds
Ratharam: 7 of Hearts 7 of Clubs
Kevin: 8 of Hearts 8 of Spades

Kevin had flopped middle set while Edward had bottom set. Rotherham’s pair improved to a set on the turn 7 of Spades, but Kevin’s pocket 88 was still better, and the 2 of Diamonds didn’t change that.

So Edward is out of the tournament and Kevin has a great triple (or close) to start the day.
