We caught up on the flop in a hand between Lonnie Hallett (small blind) and Jonathan Jaffe (big blind). With already a considerable amount of chips in the middle, Lonnie check-raised to 355,000 on a 5 of Hearts 2 of Spades 9 of Diamonds board, and snap called when Jonathan moved in over the top.

Lonnie: 5 of Spades 5 of Clubs

Jonathan: Ace of Diamonds Queen of Spades

Drawing very slim, Jonathan didn’t find any miracle cards, as the dealer rung out the Jack of Spades and the 10 of Diamonds. Jonathan handed over the 1,100,000 that Lonnie had behind, taking him out of the chip lead of the tournament. Both players are now sitting on stacks hovering around the 2,600,000 mark.

Moments after doubling Sheraz Nasir and his 410,000 stack (Ace of Clubs Queen of Diamonds < King of Diamonds Jack of Diamonds, all-in preflop) Lonnie Hallett found himself once again all-in against a shorter stack. After opening the action from late position, Lonnie was facing a flat-call by Jonathan Jaffe on the button, and a 3bet shove for 575,000 by Alexandre Blanc from the small blind. He opted for the 4bet all-in, forcing Jonathan out of the hand.

Lonnie: Queen of Spades Queen of Hearts

Alexandre: Ace of Hearts King of Clubs

The community cards (5 of Clubs 5 of Hearts 7 of Spades 2 of Diamonds 8 of Hearts) were of no help to Alexandre, who saw his deep run end in 12th place.

12th place: Alexandre Blanc – $33,080

Chartier doubles up 2 players

Samuel Chartier has a healthy stack but he was among the leaders until he doubled up two players in two successive hands.

In the first hand, Sheraz Nazir went all in over Alexandre Blanc’s opening raise to 80K. Samuel asked Alexandre how much he was playing total, and hearing the answer he wanted went all in over Sheraz.

Sheraz: Ace of Diamonds 6 of Hearts
Samuel: 5 of Diamonds 5 of Spades

There was little suspense as the board ran out Ace of Clubs 2 of Diamonds 2 of Hearts 8 of Hearts 3 of Hearts and Sheraz doubled up.

The very next hand, Mukul Pahuja shoved over an opening raise by Jonathan Jaffe and again Samuel went in, forcing Jaffe to fold.

Mukul: King of Clubs Queen of Clubs
Samuel: Jack of Spades :jd

Again there wasn’t too much suspense on the flop of King of Hearts 5 of Spades 7 of Spades and the 5 of Diamonds and 4 of Diamonds didn’t change anything.

With an effective stack of 435,000, Mukul Pahuja open-shoved from the button, and was called by Sheraz Nasir from the small blind. Samuel Chartier threw his cards into the muck from the big blind, and the two active players tabled their hands.

Mukul: Ace of Spades King of Spades

Sheraz: King of Clubs Queen of Diamonds

Mukul ran the nuts on a 7 of Hearts 10 of Spades Jack of Diamonds 2 of Hearts Queen of Clubs board to doubled up to over 20 big blinds, while Sheraz fell down to just over 250,000.

Maurice Hawkins was down to 65K before the hand after having tried – unsuccessfully – to regain some momentum after taking some hits today.

On his final hand, Sam Chartier opened preflop to 65K, Lonnie Hallett called and Maurice went all-in for that last 65K. Sheraz Nasir came along for the ride from the big blind.

The flop came Queen of Hearts 7 of Hearts 10 of Hearts and Sheraz and Samuel both checked. Lonnie then bet 100K and succeeded in folding out the other two players in the hand.

Maurice: Ace of Spades 2 of Diamonds
Lonnie: Ace of Hearts Queen of Clubs

The river was the King of Clubs and the turn was the 5 of Clubs and that was the end of the road for Maurice.

Mukul Pahuja, who placed 2nd in this event last year and has been among the chip leaders since Day 2, has just taken big hit to his stack. On a board reading 6 of Spades 7 of Diamonds King of Diamonds 2 of Spades, Alexandre Blanc check-raised Mukul to 225K after Mukul opened to 105K. Mukul called the bet and the river was dealt: 3 of Spades. Alexandre led out with an all-in bet and Mukul called.

Alexandre: King of Spades King of Hearts
Mukul: Jack of Clubs Jack of Diamonds

Mukul is now down to about 800K in chips as he attempts to make the final table for a second year in a row.
