Day 2 in Event #2 in the June Power Weekend is fast approaching, and with just 96 players starting the day and 60 places in the money, the action is certain to move very quickly when play resumes at 12:00pm. In a tournament like this, 30 eliminations can easily occur in the first or first two levels of play – so players looking to accumulate chips will have an opportunity to do so almost instantly!
There are 6 players at the top of the leaderboard who will start with over 100bb – i.e., over 300,000 in chips. Among them are Ricky Shamshoum, a former champion of an event with a similar format and buy-in, and recent WSOP-C Ring winner Ghislain Pigeon. The list of experienced and talented players at the tables is not restricted to the chip leaders, however. Miguel Goncalo, just outside of the top 6, has done well in more than his fair share of daily Playground tournaments and is always a force to be reckoned with. Maurice Simard is another player with a deep well of experience to call upon, having played big event poker around the world over the course of more than a decade.
Another former champion of a similar event at Playground is Mike Lafable, and when a player of this caliber starts with over 50bb, anything could happen! A few other players in this category: William Blais (49bb), Daune Fernandez (47bb), and Jonathan Bussieres (40bb). In addition to these, there is a pack of players that will require a strong start to the day but can easily position themselves for a deep run today, including Piotr Wielopolski, Alexander Matveev, Tanvir Ahmed, Bill Kontaratos, Michael Mellor, and Dave Jeanneau-Cyr, among others.
Play will resume in level 15 with blinds 1,500/3,000 and a button ante of 3,000. Play will continue today through 10 40-minute levels.
Good luck!
