    • Button Ante: 100K

Michel Gariépy was rather quiet in the past few rounds, but he found a hand to go all-in with from the cutoff. Eddy Gotfryd called him from the big blind and they went to an even showdown.

Gariépy: 6 of Diamonds 6 of Hearts
Gotfryd: King of Spades Queen of Spades

Board: 2 of Spades 5 of Spades Queen of Clubs 8 of Diamonds 7 of Spades

What a flop for Gotfryd! The stacks were pretty even, but the dealer counted them down and Gariépy was covered by 1 chip. Gariépy cashed $1,830 for his 8th place finish Well done!

Just before that hand, Robert Courrière lost a chunk of chips to John Palmer. Palmer had almost caught up to him at the lead, but went on to double Eric Al Halaby.

Our final tablists are taking a break, which allowed us to update the counts. Our biggest chips earner by far is Robert Courrière, who went from 910K to over 3.5M in just 3 levels of play. He plays a very solid game, taking pots by 3-betting big or by playing small post-flop.

John Palmer and Daniel Gagnon are still doing well. Gagnon won some chips but lost  them back, while Palmer struggles with good preflop hands that are not quite good enough to sustain the heat.

    Here are the actual counts:

Huy Phan, who had managed to triple his few chips early in Day 3, was yet another player who couldn’t hit with an ace-king! In this showdown, he was facing Miguel Goncalo.

Phan: Ace of Spades King of Hearts
Goncalo: Queen of Spades Queen of Hearts

Board: 5 of Clubs 9 of Spades Jack of Clubs Jack of Diamonds 7 of Diamonds

Huy Phan walked away with $1,380, 9th place money. Nice run!

Rachid Bahaj had an unfortunate passage on the Strangers in the Night final table. He paid a couple of blinds, then suffered a big loss against Miguel Goncalo. After that, down to a handful of chips, he bought the blinds once, paid them back, and then went all-in from the button in an unopened pot. Jason Fernandes, after giving it some thought, called the 295K bet.

Bahaj: Queen of Diamonds Queen of Spades
Fernandes: Ace of Spades 3 of Spades

Board: 9 of Spades 7 of Spades 5 of Clubs Jack of Spades 9 of Diamonds

A brutal way to go. Rachid Bahaj got his well-disguised queens undone and took 10th, good for $1,140. Nice run!

The first level in Day 3 is almost over, and no eliminations took place. We did have a few all-in confrontations, including Eric Al Haliby who doubled up with Ace of Diamonds Ace of Spades against Michel Gariépy’s Ace of Diamonds King of Clubs.

Huy Phan, who started the day with the shortest stack, tripled his belongings. Miguel Goncalo also managed to double up his 825K stack with King of Diamonds King of Spades, crippling Rachid Bahaj who was holding Ace of Diamonds King of Hearts.

Strangers in the Night – Day 3

    2018/07/01 - 18:39 by Jôle Simard

After 3 Day 1s and a tough Day 2 where the 96-player field of qualifiers played down to the final table, it is finally time for Day 3, the conclusion of this great charity event, one that Playground Poker Club is honored to host. The Strangers in the Night group, thanks to all participants, has benefited from the event, and the proceeds will now be donated to the Miriam Foundation, the West Island Women’s Shelter and Lymphoma Canada.

But tonight, we focus on the poker at hand. Every Day 3 participant is guaranteed $1,140, and the top prize is $13,804! John Palmer is in the lead with nearly 2M chips, but 5 other players are enjoying a 7-figure stack. The competition will be tough!

Cards are in the air at 7PM sharp, and we will be there to report. Stay tuned!

    John Palmer
