Antoine Simon takes no prisoners. When Dave Jeannot-Cyr got involved preflop, Anderson Graham went in for about 7K. His short stack all-in bet was called by Simon, and Jeannot-Cyr committed his own stack, worth about 21K. Simon made the call, and they went to a 3-way showdown.

    Jeannot-Cyr: 8 of Spades 8 of Hearts
Simon: Ace of Hearts Jack of Diamonds
Graham: Ace of Diamonds 8 of Clubs

Anderson Graham was in a hurt locker, with very few card combinations that could help him. The flop was extremely good for him, as he was now only a huge underdog with 2 outs for a win, a clear improvement from his preflop status.

Board: Ace of Spades Ace of Clubs 6 of Hearts 10 of Spades Queen of Spades

Simon scooped the pot and is now a force in the tournament.

After 6 levels of tournament life security, the counter closed. 116 entries were accounted for, including 17 re-entries. The average stack is a whopping 75 big blinds deep, and players will likely start protecting their belongings a little more dutifully.

After 4 levels of play, Maxime Argento and Raphael Tran Dinh are pretty much sharing the top of the leaderboard. Tran Dinh missed the qualification by a hair last night, and is back in force!

Michael Frenkel and Spencer Jean-Baptiste went to war on a paired flop.

Flop: 8 of Spades 9 of Spades 8 of Hearts

An escalation of bets soon got them all-in for about 15K effective.

Jean-Baptiste: Queen of Spades 5 of Spades
Frenkel: 10 of Spades 10 of Clubs

Jean-Baptiste could not find a spade or a queen, and handed a portion of his stack to Frenkel. Meanwhile, the tally of entries just surpassed 100, with another 2 levels to go before registration closes. Players will now take their first break.

In a pot of just 2K, built preflop, heavy action ensued in a flop showdown. Antoine Simon led with 1.5K, and was called once before the action got to a very interested Martin Nadeau. He made it 4.5K to go. Antoine thought for a while, did the chip dance, and finally moved all-in for 20,000 chips. The third player quickly got out of the way, and Martin was then facing a decision for almost all his chips.

Antoine, noting his opponent’s indecision, mentioned that it was still early. Martin replied that reloading is always an option, which made a few people smile, and threw a chip in.

Antoine: Ace of Clubs 8 of Clubs
Martin: Queen of Diamonds 9 of Spades

Board: 6 of Hearts 9 of Clubs Queen of Clubs Jack of Hearts 4 of Clubs

Martin’s top 2-pair was undone on the river by Antoine’s top draw.

Day 1B of the Strangers in the Night event is taking form. The crowd grows steadily, and as level 2 winds down, xx players are at the tables. We expect well over a hundred entries, including many re-entries resulting from the ‘shoot and reload’ modus operandi usually in effect in this type of event.

Here is an early look at the field:
