Meyer steps up and makes the correct call

Cedric Meyer was on the river, heads-up with William Blais. In a pot of not even 10K, Blais had put Meyer all-in for his remaining 20K or so. Meyer was frowning, looking at Blais and the board alternately, trying to find insight.

Board: 4 of Spades Ace of Spades King of Hearts 9 of Clubs 7 of Diamonds

Meyer made the call with nothing but an ace! Blais showed 10 of Hearts 9 of Hearts, and started counting chips before he saw his opponent’s Ace of Clubs 10 of Spades! Meyer’s call was as tough as his opponent, who lives up to his reputation, event after event.

The first 6 levels have passed in Day 1A of the Strangers in the Night charity event, which means the registration period is over. It also means that players can no longer re-enter.

104 entries have taken place, a total made of 85 entries and 19 re-entries. Play will continue until 14 levels are completed. Here are a few recent shots of the field:

    Huge flop, bigger turn

    • Level: 6

    • Big Blind: 400
    • Button Ante: 400

We came across a hand that had Brett Gregory Hart all-in on the river on a double-paired board. Michel Bergeron was in the tank.

Board: King of Hearts 7 of Hearts 7 of Spades King of Diamonds 8 of Spades

Michel Bergeron was facing a 10K bet, which was under pot size. He finally made the call.

Brett: King of Clubs Jack of Clubs
Michel: 7 of Clubs 2 of Diamonds

Wow! Michel was in the blinds, which is why he got to see a flop with the worst possible hand in full-ring poker. Unfortunately, his dream flop turned into a nightmare on the turn, and Brett got an over-average stack from it.

The players are returning from their first break of the evening, with 79 players still in the running. There have been 94 entries so far, including 10 re-entries.

While there is still a long way to go in this flight, two players, Joey Mccomber and Francois Roda, have jumped out ahead of the field with stats hovering around 80K.

The players continue to file in for Event #2, bringing the field up to 85 entries with nearly 90 minutes of late registration and re-entries available. So far, 8 players have opted to fire a second bullet at this event but many more will surely follow suit before long.

Here’s another look at some of the players in contention:

Day 1A of the Strangers in the Night NL Hold’em Re-entry is off to a steady start, with 49 players finding their seats before the end of the first level of play. Late registration will be open until 10:15pm, leaving plenty of time to (re-)join the action tonight. Thanks to the slow structure and extended late registration period, expect the entries to keep filing in throughout the night.

Here’s a quick look at the field:
