The players have just returned to their seats following the first break of the evening. A few more players joined the field during the break, bringing the total number of entries up to 234.

The action was fast and loose throughout the first few levels, allowing many players to run their stacks beyond double the current chip average. Philippe Anglade is first among them, playing a stack that is nearly triple the average.

As the action heats up in the fourth level of play, there are over 5,000,000 chips in play here on Day 1C, thanks to the huge turnout of 202 entries. This event features an extended late registration and re-entry period so players have until 10:15 pm to (re-)join the field.

Many players came out firing tonight, trying to build their stacks as quickly as possible. This “boom or bust” approach paid dividends for some and sent others back to the cage, as shown by the 21 entries at this stage.

The end of the fourth level approaches, stay tuned for the first leader board…

We are already into our third level of play on Day 1C, and the flow of players into the tournament hall shows no signs of slowing down. With 172 entries and more than two hours of late registration and re-entries still to go, Day 1C will have a massive amount of chips in play. This is one you don’t want to miss!

Here’s a look at the field:

During the second level of play on Day 1C, players continue to file into the tournament hall, bringing the number of entries up to 148. And the ice has been broken on the re-entries, with 6 players already on their second bullet.

The field contains a lot of familiar faces tonight, from regular players to Playground event veterans from far and wide, but none are more recognizable than Habs legend and Strangers in the Night spokesperson, Larry Robinson!

Tonight could be your opportunity to play a pot with a Hockey Hall of Fame member and multiple Stanley Cup champion so take advantage of the late registration period and head to Playground to join the Strangers in the Night before it’s too late!

Last chance to join the Strangers in the Night!

    2018/06/29 - 19:01 by Shawn McCrory

Day 1C, the third and final starting flight of the $150 + $25 Strangers in the Night NL Hold’em Re-entry, is set to get underway. The players will grind their way through 14 levels of play tonight, with the hope of bagging as many chips as possible for tomorrow’s Day 2.

This three-day event starts players with 25,000 in chips and offers a gradual structure with 30-minute blind levels. Tonight’s flight also offers an extended late registration period and unlimited re-entries until the end of the sixth level of play, making it easy for everyone to get in on the action and compete for their share of the $50,000 guaranteed prize pool.

With only a few minutes to go until the cards are in the air, the tournament hall is filling up quickly; it looks like there will be a huge field tonight

    Good luck to all!

20 bags shipped to Day 2

    2018/06/29 - 3:02 by Jôle Simard

The Strangers in the Night event is one step closer to merging into a single field. Day 1B just concluded, and 20 players were added to the qualifiers list. For some of these players, it was a long grind. For others, like Johannes Verhoeven, it seemed like a walk in the park. Verhoeven started accelerating on level 9, and after that, his stack just kept growing. He was seen limping in and taking many pots down, without putting himself in danger.

Maurice Simard had a different path. He kept himself slightly above average for a while, until he won a 4-way all-in pot with aces, some 35 minutes before the end. He bagged 231,500 chips, a top 5 stack. What a nice way to get into Day 2!

Richard Shamshoum had an amazing last lap, taking many pots down, including the very last one. He raised with Ace of Hearts 10 of Hearts, and Martin Nadeau went all-in with a sizeable stack. Richard called, and realized he was facing a six-deuce! Martin did flop 10 outs – live cards and a gutshot – but the ace prevailed. This last pot got Richard just enough to steal the top place from Johannes Verhoeven, who had been in the driver’s seat for about 4 levels. Dramatic finish!
