The dinner break has come and gone in Day 1B of the 2017 WPT Montreal, and with the beginning of level 7 came the end of late registration in this 2nd of 3 starting flights in the event. The total number of entries today was 200, exactly double the number for Day 1A.
There were a few last-minute registrants, and it’s a kind of who’s who – Jake Schwartz joined at 5:30pm, and then Bryn Kenney, Kevin Macphee, Sam Chartier, and Demo Kiriopoulos joined during the break. Not to mention Francois Goulet, who may not have the profile of those other players, but is very well known locally as a talented addition to the field.

After 6 levels of play, players are now enjoying a dinner break. Most of them are taking advantage of the complimentary buffet that is made available in the tournament hall.
We took the opportunity to bring you an extensive leaderboard, made up of every player with a stack upwards of 70,000 chips. That list is ruled by Noeung Troeung, who managed to elevate his stack to 121,100.
There are 15 more minutes to the break, after which registration for Day 1B will be closed, and we will be able to publish the attendance numbers.

Poker is mostly a world of men, but that state of things is slowly changing. On table 64, 3 women are playing, a rare event in a tournament of this magnitude.
You can find on that table Jeanette Mendez, who has been playing events mostly on the American west coast for 2 years, Laurence Grondin (PPI Poker Ambassador) and Ema Zajmovic (Winner of the $3,200 + $300 Winter Festival’s WPT Main Event).

Rami Hammoud, a local player, raised the 300 big blind to 800. He was called once before Gerald Karlic 3-bet to 4,000. Rami shoved his 30,600 stack in the middle, putting him to the test. The caller quickly got out of the way, and Karlic thought for about 30 seconds. He finally decided that Hammoud’s range was behind, and made the call.

Karlic, after watching a dry flop come out, hit a runner-runner flush for the knockout, and chips up to almost 80K.
