In most cases, immediately following a break we publish a comprehensive leaderboard of the top 5, 10, or more players. During the last break, however, we found that there is a glut of players with stacks in the 65K-75K range – but few to no front-runners who have built up anything resembling a dominant stack. At this point, the chip leader overall is Michel Lacasse, who is playing just over 89,000 in chips, and Stefano Gallo is right behind with about 84,000.

As level 5 begins, registration today has bumped up to 299 entries, which easily surpasses the guarantee and means that every additional buy-in serves to grow the prize pool… with another 2 levels plus the dinner break to register, today’s attendance is sure to pass 300 on the day.

Among the recent arrivals is Michael Mizrachi, who is taking a second shot in the event today.

It’s early to have a true leaderboard, but so far Robert Rose, Dilovan Hussein, and Robert Notkin are all over 2x the starting stack and looking to grow.

Here are some photos taken during level 2 of Day 1C of the WPT Montreal.

Dr Notkin wins a big one

  • Level: 2
  • Small Blind: 75
  • Big Blind: 150
  • Ante: 0
  • Chip Average: 30.2K
  • Remaining: 256
  • Entries: 258

Robert Notkin is a regular visitor to events hosted at Playground Poker Club and was the champion of the famous Canada Cup event that featured a 4-way all-in to wrap up the tournament – perhaps the only time that has occurred in a major poker event.

Robert filled us in on a recent hand he won to almost triple up in the early going. There were 3 players in the hand on a 5-5-2 flop. There was a bet and two calls on the flop and then a 7 was dealt on the turn – gin for Robert’s 5 of Diamonds 7 of Diamonds, and well ahead of what we learned was pocket deuces (flopped full house) for the player in seat 3 and pocket JJ for the other player in the hand. The river 7 kept this third player in the hand

We’ll have an initial leaderboard following the break at the end of this level.

Former Champ Roy is out

2017/11/12 - 12:38 by

The Champion of the inaugural WPT Montreal in 2012, Jonathan Roy, is out of the tournament. As reported on by the WPT Live Events team and Carter Swidler, Jonathan check-called on the turn and river to get his stack in the middle, only to see that his opponent had flopped a set of 7s and rivered a boat, 7s full of 3s.

Vince Van Patten has just uttered the immortal poker command to “Shuffle up and Deal” in Day 1C of the WPT Montreal. With that, cards started flying on tables throughout the tournament hall – there are already 180 players seated with more arriving every minute.

Sorry about the quality of the audio, but here was the intro to the action today:
