Going into the last segment of the night, Daniel Le is in the driver’s seat. Daniel Le’s stack has been sailing smoothly, going forward with no major step back. Loïc Virapin-Apou is also a very constant climber. Albert Nguyen has seen a sudden burst, and is comfortably sitting in 2nd place. Sharron Patenaude has lost a few chips, but is still very healthy.

Below is our last leaderboard of the night. After the next 3 levels, survivors will bag their chips and add their name to the Combined Day 1 Results.

On a 4-card board, 2 all-in cards were out. Kathy Sawyers had bet 6K, and Paul Arcache shoved his 15.9K. Jean-Luc Joseph pushed his own stack forward, worth 32.3K, sending Sawyers deep in the tank. She finally made the call with 2 pairs, and found she was third, with only 2 outs to perform the double knockout.

Paul Arcache: 9 of Hearts 7 of Clubs
Jean-Luc Joseph: 5 of Hearts 5 of Clubs
Kathy Sawyers: 6 of Hearts 5 of Spades

Board: Queen of Spades 6 of Spades 5 of Diamonds 8 of Clubs 8 of Diamonds

The board paired, filling Joseph’s boat, and Arcache’s nut straight was demoted to a second best. Joseph happily took down a pot of almost 100K.

It is quite rare for a first break chip leader to keep that position through the whole 2nd segment, but Sharron Patenaude has achieved that tonight. 3 other players round up the 6-figure club, and are listed below:

Nicholas Soller was in serious trouble when his chips went in on the flop, but the deck had something funky in mind. His Ace of Hearts 6 of Clubs was facing 10 of Hearts 10 of Diamonds. Here is how you beat a set with a top pair:

Board: 9 of Clubs Ace of Spades 10 of Clubs King of Clubs 3 of Clubs

Soller declared that his bad plays tend to serve him well. He chipped up to about 25K.

Dany Thériault limped in, and Mathieu Boulanger-Vaugois raised to 2K. Stéphane Leroux went all-in for 2.3K, which were called by both opponents. They committed the rest of their chips on the flop, and all 3 hands were tabled, but Thériault already had the check mark:

Dany Thériault: 2 of Hearts 2 of Spades
Mathieu Boulanger-Vaugeois: Ace of Clubs King of Clubs
Stéphane Leroux: Ace of Hearts King of Diamonds

Board: 2 of Clubs 9 of Hearts 2 of Diamonds 9 of Diamonds 7 of Hearts

Thériault showed no emotion and collected the chips, as 2 stunned individuals walked away.

In the remaining field, 2 accomplished players are making their way through the levels:

    William Blais
    Jonathan Bussières

Nicolas Connan’s kings dodge a bullet

    • Level: 6
    • Small Blind: 200
    • Big Blind: 400
    • Button Ante: 400
    • Chip Average: 29.3K

    2018/01/14 - 21:58 by Jôle Simard

On the flop, there were about 9,000 chips in pot. Salaheddine Lyoubi bet 1,800 and was called twice before Nicolas Connan shoved his remaining 10,300. Lyoubi took some time to think it through, and finally went all-in himself. The 2 callers got out of the way, and 2 hands were tabled:

Nicolas Connan: King of Hearts King of Clubs
Salaheddine Lyoubi: Queen of Diamonds Jack of Diamonds

Board: 10 of Diamonds 3 of Hearts Jack of Spades 4 of Diamonds 6 of Hearts

The turn brought Lyoubi a flush draw, bringing his outs to 14, but the river came dry. Connan took a breath, then the pot. Lyoubi was crippled to about 3,000 chips.
