Yu Chen Chen is doing an amazing job at putting excruciating pressure on his opponents. When Alexandre Côté-St-Louis raised to 250K, Yu Chen called from the small blind. He then went ahead and bet in front of Côté-St-Louis, for 225K. Côté-St-Louis called, and bet 425K after Yu Chen checked the turn. That bet was raised all-in, putting maximum pressure on Côté-St-Louis.

The board showed many small cards, which makes it easy to imagine that Côté-St-Louis reluctantly folded a big pre-flop hand, choosing to keep 1.5M for a rainy day.

A few hands later, Alain Bérard hurt him badly, taking half his stack with Ace of Hearts 5 of Diamonds against his Ace of Diamonds King of Clubs. The flop showed a 5, bringing Côté-St-Louis down to less than 1M in chips.

Meanwhile, Charles La Boissonnière plays some smart poker, choosing his spots and mostly staying away from Yu Chen. He is second in chips with almost 3M.

Yu Chen Chen has been pretty active, and when he opened to 250K, Nicolas Laliberté thought he could pick those chips up with an all-in bet. He shoved, and when the dealer was done counting the stack on Yu Chen’s request, 2M were to be called.

Yu Chen did make the call, which created the biggest pot of the night by far.

Nicolas Laliberté: Ace of Clubs 10 of Clubs
Yu Chen Chen: Ace of Hearts King of Spades

Board: Jack of Clubs 8 of Hearts King of Hearts 9 of Diamonds 6 of Spades

The pot brought Yu Chen to about 5M chips. On the following hand, Jason Guiley raised all-in from the button, and Yu Chen made a quick call with… ace-king again!

Jason guiley: King of Hearts Queen of Diamonds
Yu Chen Chen: Ace of Spades King of Diamonds

Board: 3 of Diamonds 3 of Spades Queen of Clubs Ace of Hearts 4 of Clubs

Yu Chen now has a stranglehold on this final with over 6M, or about half the chips in play. Play resumes 5-way.

    7th place: Nicolas Laliberté – $2,650
    6th place: Jason Guiley – $3,800

When Jason Guiley went all-in, Ricky Campanelli picked up a hand that could not be passed.

Jason Guiley: Ace of Clubs 10 of Clubs
Ricky Campanelli: Ace of Diamonds Queen of Spades

Board: 2 of Hearts 8 of Diamonds 10 of Diamonds 4 of Diamonds 3 of Hearts

A huge bad beat for Campanelli. That ten on the flop was the difference between going out in 8th and moving forward with a pay jump.

Two more players just hit the rail. The blinds are now up to 30K/60K and they are beginning to force the action.

Nick Soller was eliminated in 13th place, good for $1,080, when he open shoved an 8 big blind stack with Ace of Spades 7 of Diamonds and ran into 4 of Clubs 4 of Hearts. While Soller flopped his ace, his opponent, Nicolas Laliberte, flopped a set. The board ran out 4 of Spades Ace of Clubs King of Clubs King of Diamonds Queen of Clubs.

Scott Woodard hit the rail just after Soller. Woodard raised all in before the flop from the small blind overAlain Berard’s button raise and Berard made the call. Woodard tabled King of Diamonds Jack of Spades and Berard showed Ace of Clubs 3 of Clubs. The board ran out 5 of Diamonds 6 of Spades 2 of Spades 9 of Hearts 10 of Clubs, offering no help to either player and ace high was good enough. Woodard’s 12th place finish will pay him $1,250.

In a fairly standard play from the cut off with relatively few blinds, Mathieu Fontaine Raposo went all in before the flop with Ace of Diamonds 10 of Diamonds. Alexandre Cote-st-louis had some lucky timing to wake up in the big blind with Ace of Hearts King of Hearts when facing Fontaine Raposo’s all-in bet and made the call. The board was King of Clubs 3 of Clubs 4 of Clubs Jack of Hearts 8 of Clubs, eliminating Fontaine Raposo in 11th place, which will pay him $1,250.

The final table has now started.
