Charles La Boissonnière started off with a bang. He is the author of the first 2 eliminations of the night. Just a few hands in, he open-min-raised from the button, and got called by Albert Nguyen. When Nguyen checked the flop, La Boissonnière place a 100K bet, which was met by an all-in. The call came in instantly, and the uneven race took place:

Charles La Boissonnière: Jack of Hearts Jack of Spades
Albert Nguyen: King of Diamonds 9 of Diamonds

Board: 4 of Clubs 9 of Hearts 2 of Spades 2 of Clubs 4 of Spades

Nguyen’s flopped top pair was not enough to beat jacks, and he went out first. A few hands later, Daniel Thibodeau shoved his 500K stack from the under-the-gun position, and La Boissonnière isolated him by going all-in himself. They went to the board heads-up:

Daniel Thibodeau: King of Diamonds Queen of Hearts
Charles La Boissonnière: Ace of Clubs Queen of Diamonds

Board: Jack of Diamonds Ace of Diamonds 2 of Hearts 7 of Hearts King of Spades

The gut shot did not come, and Thibodeau exited the room, placing 14th. Play continues on shorter tables, 3 eliminations away from the final table.

    15th: Albert Nguyen – $1,080
    14th: Daniel Thibodeau – $1,080

    Day 3 is here!

    2018/01/18 - 18:52 by Jôle Simard

Last night, the competition was fierce. 127 players started Day 2, and after 12 levels of play, only 15 remained. A $1,080 prize is locked in for all Day 3 qualifiers, but a whopping $20,000 awaits the victor, so there is plenty to shoot for.

Six players will start the day with 7 figures to work with, led by Nicolas Laliberté (2,210,000), who was most successful throughout the last levels of play last night.

The tables are set. The bags are waiting for their rightful owners. The dealers are ready. Let the players come, and good luck to all!

Day 2 closes with 15 Day 3 qualifiers

    2018/01/18 - 2:09 by Jôle Simard

After 12 levels of tough poker, and from a field of 127 starters, 15 players found their way to Day 3. They are listed below, along with their chips count.

Nicolas Laliberté finished with the most chips, alone over 2,000,000. Apart from a few minor steps back, his stack steadily went up all night. Charles La Boissonnière, who had an unbelievable run at the end of Day 1D, also had a smooth ascent. He is a regular achiever at Playground, having ran deep, and even won in passed Events.

Tomorrow night’s Day 3 promises to offer a great show, as many young guns will come to the tables with their best game to take a shot at the $20,000 first prize.

    See you tomorrow!

Justin Hung, who was chip leader less than 2 levels ago, is out. With about 300K left (30% of his once rich stack), he fell to Nicholas Soller.

Justin Hung: Ace of Spades Queen of Hearts
Nicholas Soller: Ace of Clubs 7 of Clubs

A brutal turn gave Hung the final blow. On another table, Martin Nguyen fell when his 150K stack was called by 2 of the wealthiest players, chip leader Nicolas Laliberté and Charles La Boissonnière. The latter flopped a flush, and after getting an extra 100K from Laliberté, went to showdown with a drawing dead Nguyen.

David Sorgente also bit the dust, when his ace-king fell to pocket tens.
