The pace of play in today’s Day 3 so far is probably unsustainable, but action has moved extremely quickly as 15 players have already been eliminated today. This has meant that two tables have already broken and the remaining players have already cleared two pay jumps on the day.

For the record, here are today’s eliminations.

Players continue to fall quickly to start the day, and Pierre Lamothe is he most recent vicim.

Raymond Glover raised to 55K from utg and action folded around to Rayan Chamas in the sb, who made the call. Lamothe then raised all-in from the bb and action returned to Glover. Glover, wearing a grey hoodie with the hood raised went pretty deep into the tank, asking for a count half-way through and finding that the all-in was for 306K.

Eventually he folded and action was on Chamas. Omid Shahbazian almost instantly called for time, but mostly because of the time that Glover had used, not the 10 seconds Chamas had used. No clock was applied. Chamas cut out the additional 251K from his 1M+ stack needed to call… and then threw in a chip to make it official.

Lamothe: 2 of Clubs 2 of Hearts
Chamas: Queen of Diamonds Jack of Spades

It took until the turn for the bad news to come for Lamothe. The flop was 10 of Clubs 6 of Spades King of Clubs followed by the Queen of Clubs to give Chamas the higher pair. Lamothe did pick up a flush draw, but the 4 of Hearts on the river sealed the deal.

Action is now underway in Day 3 of the Playground 1000, and it’s starting quickly – through 15 minutes there have already been 5 eliminations. Maxime Theroux, David Ho, Grant Ellis, William Blais, and Mustafa Hassanzada have all left the tournament with $1,940.00 in their pockets.

Three players of the 48 who are still in the action all hail from Newfoundland: Aaron Parsons, Ryan Parsons, and Francis Collins. In addition, there’s another Newfoundlander we’ve come to know well, Jonathan Marrie, who is the chip leader going into Day 2 of the $1,100 50/50 Bounty tonight.

Day 3 of the Playground 1000 is just minutes away from beginning, and when the tournament resumes, just 53 players will be taking places at one of the 7 tables still in play. 10 players have already been eliminated in the money, so everyone still playing will earn something for their efforts today – the min-cash today is $1,940.00.

The remaining field is led by Daune Fernandez. Daune is a fixture in big events at Playground Poker Club, and he proved that he can finish when he won the $250 Frenzy in the 2016 Fall Classic for $50,000 – so no one would be well advised to take this competitor lightly as they try and move to the big payouts.

That being said, there are a ton of other superbly skilled players left in the event. Griffin Benger’s name stands out on the list of remaining players – with almost $4M in Live poker earnings for his career, he has a record of performance that’s unmatched in the remaining field. In addition to Benger, though, there are also players like Charles La Boissonniere, Francois Goulet, Said Michailidis, and Ruben Perceval – each of whom has a proven record of having won a Championship here at Playground Poker Club. And further down the list, there are three players of note – William Blais, Pierre Paul Paulin, and Rayan Chamas, all of whom have had some pretty special success in the past in big events.

At the end of the analysis, it must be said that everyone still in the event has proven to have the skill to make it this far, and that alone makes them dangerous going forward. It’s still anyone’s tournament! Good luck to all!

    Day 2 wrap up

    2018/01/29 - 22:49 by Shawn McCrory

Day 2 of Event #11, the PG1000, has just finished. The money bubble was the story of the day, as play was at a virtual standstill for nearly an hour during hand for hand play. After the bubble finally burst, players hit the rail one after another, bringing the number remaining down to 53.

We started with 205 qualifiers from the three Day 1s for this event, and many players opted to buy in directly during the first two levels. Day 2 drew 36 new players and 23 re-entries for a total of 51 new entries. These late additions brought the total number of entries up to 499, leaving this tournament in overlay territory but just barely.

John Helou and Charles La Boissonnière had the biggest stacks throughout Day 2, but Daune Fernandez managed to get the chip lead by the end of the day with 2,917,000 chips in the bag for Day 3.

    Daune Fernandez
