    Day 1 wrap up

    2018/01/30 - 2:44 by Shawn McCrory

Day 1 has finished, and the players have bagged their chips for tomorrow’s Day 2 of the 50-50 Bounty.

Frequent showdowns and lots of tense moments were the theme of the evening. The 84 players who made it out for Day 1 were clearly in the mood to gamble for bounties; multi-way all-in situations were a regular occurrence. Virtually every time a bounty chip was in play there was at least one caller. So it comes as no surprise that only 18 players survived the 13 levels played this evening. Most players who survived this flight have already captured several bounties, which puts most of them in the poker player’s dream situation: free rolling for a chance to get a piece of a $100,000 prize pool.

The current chip leader, who had the biggest stack for most of the evening, is Jonathan Marrie with 253,000.

Day 2 kicks off at 7:00pm on Tuesday. Good luck to all!

The 50-50 Bounty field has continued to shrink at a steady pace. As we enter the last level of the evening, 18 players remain. With Day 2 and the prize money in sight, expect the bounty hunting to take a back seat to more conservative, traditional tournament poker.

Here are some of the remaining players:

The bounty hunting continues in the late stages of Event #14. The blinds were 600/1.2K when Kosta Papa limped from early position. The action folded to the cut off who moved all in for 23K, two folds later, the big blind went all in over the top. The action came back to Papa who asked how much it would cost and started counting his stack. After a moment of deliberation, he made the call. When the hands were tabled, Papa’s 6 of Diamonds 6 of Hearts were actually in pretty good shape, up against Ace of Hearts King of Spades and Ace of Clubs King of Diamonds. But the flop, Ace of Diamonds King of Spades 9 of Clubs, turned the tables on Papa and put the other two players out in front. The 5 of Hearts on the turn was no help to any of the hands involved. As the dealer placed down the final burn card, a player at the table could be heard saying “a six for justice!” And, sure enough, the 6 of Clubs fell on the river. With a set on the river, Papa collected two bounties and the field was reduced to 27 players.

Play continues in the 50-50 Bounty, following the final break of the evening. The field has been shrinking steadily all night and we are now down to 35 players on four tables. We are still far away from the money so expect the bustouts to continue at a steady pace as the hunt for bounties intensifies. The action continues until the conclusion of play after level 13 when the players will bag chips for tomorrow’s Day 2.

There is no shortage of action in tonight’s 50-50 Bounty. All it takes is a bounty chip in play to stir things up; it’s a situation familiar to anyone who’s played a bounty tournament.

A good example just happened on table 37 when Ara Asatoorian, who was down to a little more than 10 big blinds, moved all in from early position. The other players had their eyes on his $500 bounty chip, and each one wanted their chance to go heads up against the short stack. Andrew Forest attempted to isolate by going all in over the top, but he ran into a big(ger) hand when Mitcheal Ferguson moved all in for less. The blinds got out of the way and hands were tabled.

Asatoorian: King of Clubs Jack of Clubs

Forest: 5 of Diamonds 5 of Spades

Ferguson: Queen of Clubs Queen of Spades

The flop, 8 of Clubs 2 of Hearts 4 of Clubs, gave Asatoorian lots of outs but Ferguson maintained the lead. The turn, King of Spades, was enough for Asatoorian to salvage his bounty chip and triple up. The river, Ace of Hearts, had no impact and Ferguson took down the side pot with his queens.

Play continues in level 10, a leaderboard update will follow soon.
