Khaled Baalbaki has just eliminated another player. Baalbaki, who had opened the pre-flop action from early position, picked up two callers, the blinds, and they saw a flop of 3 of Hearts 8 of Diamonds 4 of Clubs. In standard fashion, the action was checked to Baalbaki who made a c-bet of 12K; fireworks ensued. After the small blind made the call, the big blind, Eric Leblond, went all in for slightly more than 100K. Baalbaki immediately went all in over the top and the small blind quickly got out of the way. Leblond tabled 8 of Hearts 9 of Spades. Baalbaki showed King of Hearts 8 of Clubs. The turn came a 5 of Diamonds and the river a King of Spades, to help Baalbaki pad his chip lead.

14 players remain as we play our way down to 10 today.

We are now down to two tables, and a new chip leader has emerged. Khaled Baalbaki just took down a huge pot to eliminate Rong Xu in 19th place. With the blinds at 2K/4K, Baalbaki opened in early position to 8K. Rong Xu went into the tank before scanning the room, checking the tournament board and pushing forward his whole stack. The action quickly folded back to Baalbaki who was faced with a tough decision. After a minute of thought, he made the call. The cards were tabled to reveal a flip; Xu had Ace of Diamonds King of Clubs and Baalbaki had 9 of Clubs 9 of Spades. The flop of 3 of Hearts 8 of Diamonds Queen of Clubs were followed by Queen of Spades and 8 of Clubs. The nines stood and Xu was eliminated in 19th place. Baalbaki now has the chip lead with over 200K.

18 players now remain and they are competing for 10 places in tomorrow’s Day 2.

The field has shrunk and the chips have balanced out as we return from the latest break. The average stack now provides roughly 25 big blinds and only our chip leader, Alexandre Douville, holds more than twice the chip average. The 25 remaining players are each fighting for one of ten spots available for tomorrow’s Day 2.

We have just entered our third break of the day and half the starting field still has chips. The disparities between stacks widened significantly since the last break, with the big stacks now holding more than double the chip average while many players are now playing short stacks, forcing them to tighten up and wait for a good spot.

Winning a hand with pocket aces is more easily said than done, most poker players will tell you. This adage was reinforced when we saw pocket rockets go down in flames here in level 10 of the Crazy $80.

When we arrived at the table, with the blinds at 1K/2K, Sheridan Duclair had 3-bet an early position raise to 6K. His raise picked up a cold call from Nicolas Bastien in the big blind and a call from the initial raiser. The action was checked to Duclair on a 8 of Hearts 7 of Clubs 5 of Diamonds flop. He quickly moved all in. He was called by the big blind and hands were tabled. Duclair tabled Ace of Spades Ace of Hearts and Bastien showed 6 of Diamonds 6 of Spades. The 9 of Diamonds appeared on the turn and Duclair was drawing dead to a chop. The 2 of Clubs on the river changed nothing and Duclair hit the rail.

The action continues with 52 players remaining as we approach the end of level 10.
