Nearly two thirds of the starting field have hit the rail in Event #5. The deepstack turbo has been true to form, with players busting out at a steady pace all afternoon. Nine of the 27 remaining players will get paid this afternoon, with the champion earning $2,160 and the coveted champion’s trophy.

Here are the three biggest stacks as we enter level 14:

The blind pressure is increasing as we near the completion of level 12 in Event #5. It seems like all the dealers are saying is “all in” at this point, with the bustouts continuing at a furious pace.

The turbo structure promotes hyper-aggressive play, and a hand we just witnessed is a case in point. With the blinds at 1.5K/3K, Francois Semaan was on the button when he looked down at Ace of Spades Queen of Hearts. Figuring he could get away with an easy theft of the blinds, he moved all in, however, Olivier Brossard, the big blind, woke up with a monster; King of Spades King of Clubs. Brossard quickly made the call and they saw a board of Ace of Clubs Jack of Diamonds 9 of Clubs 9 of Spades 4 of Spades. While this type of hand generally plays itself, especially when the stacks are relatively short, there were over 70 big blinds up for grabs in this one. Semaan was obviously happy to scoop a huge pot, but he had a sheepish look as he stacked his chips; “I don’t feel bad, but I just realized that I shoved over 90K…” It’s a turbo, after all.

Another break approaches, stay tuned for a leaderboard update.

The late registration period has just ended, and the players are back to the tables. Play was fast and loose during the early levels, with a dozen players hitting the rail before the first break. 74 of the 86 entries remain in contention for a share of the $8,600.00 prize pool in this one-day event. Several players have built stacks of more than double the starting stack, but one player, Luc Richard, has an overwhelming chip lead over the field.
